Hello, dear crochet lover!
Thank you for purchasing my pattern! I hope it works out right, and the
crocheted Dragon will delight you and your loved ones! 😊
Be free to ask any questions according to the pattern. I will do my best to answer
you:
https://instagram.com/yarunova_toys
https://whiteartline.etsy.com
About the pattern
The size of the toy depends on the yarn weight and crochet hook you are
using, as well as on the crochet density. The finished Dragon using the materials
stated in this pattern is 9.84~10.62 inches / 25-27 cm tall.
I recommend crocheting two similar parts on the same day, as the crochet
density may differ on different days. Crochet the toy in continuous spirals
without turning chains. Crochet tightly so that there are no "holes" then the toy
will look neat and beautiful.
Take your time, read the crochet pattern carefully, and watch the video. I tried
to make the detailed written instruction as possible so that you can easily crochet
the same naughty Dragon! Enjoy crocheting and easy loops! 😊

Head:
Crochet the spots when making the head. Crochet in a circle alternating two colors
at the same time.
For your convenience, I used the additional abbreviations.
Abbreviations (US):
Sc with A.c., dec with A.c., inc with A.c. – crochet with additional color;
Sc with B.c., dec with B.c., inc with B.c. – crochet with basic color;
Inc with A. and B.c. – increase: crochet the first stitch with the additional color
and the second stitch with the basic color;
Inc with B. and A.c. – increase: crochet the first stitch with the basic color and the
second stitch with the additional color;
HDC with A.c. – half double crochet with the additional color;
HDC with B.c – half double crochet with the basic color;
HDC inc with A. and B.c. – half double increase: crochet the first half double
crochet with additional color and the second half double crochet with the basic
color;
HDC inc with B. and A.c. – half double crochet increase: crochet the first half
double crochet with the basic color and the second half double crochet with the
additional color.
Start crocheting with the additional color yarn. The stitch marker is on the bottom
side of the head. Make sure that the marker is always in the middle. Crochet shift
stitches if needed (it means do not crochet the last stitch in the round or crochet
one extra stitch in the next round) and move the stitch marker.

Rnd 7: 24 sl st (24)
From the next round, attach the basic color yarn (I used red yarn) and place stitch
markers. We will install the safety eyes into these marked stitches later. Crochet a
few hdc after the first color change and secure the yarn tails into two knots.
Click the icon to watch the video: how to change yarn colors and crochet
the colorful spots on the head of the dragon (crochet from the 8th to the
15th rounds).
Change yarn colors as guided in the photos:
Do not complete the last single crochet stitch before changing the yarn color.
Insert the hook and grab the working yarn. There are two loops on the hook.
Grab the yarn of the second color with the hook and pull it through two loops on
the hook.

Change yarn colors as guided below, when crocheting hdc increase with different
colors:
Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, and start crocheting half double crochet
but do not complete it. Grab the yarn of the second color with the hook and pull
it carefully so it does not tighten the head of the dragon. Pull the yarn through
three loops on the hook. Thus, we made hdc inc with two colors.

Cut the basic color yarn and secure it into the knot. Hide
the knot inside the head.
Install the eyes into the marked points. Before fastening them – please, make sure,
that they are symmetrical to the colored bulge on both sides. If not, move them to
the desired side. The eye position depends on the yarn and your crochet density.

Rnd 16: 42 sc (42)

Rnd 17: (5 sc, dec)*6 (36)
Rnd 18: 2 sc, dec, (4 sc, dec)*5, 2 sc (30)
Take a disk D=35 mm and T-split pin. Insert the split pin into the disk and install
it in the center on the bottom of the head between rounds 11 and 12.
Check the position of the head by following my recommendations: crochet the first
5 rounds of the body and try them on the head. Put the disk onto the split pin and
insert the split pin into the body, as guided in the photo. If you are satisfied with
its position, then put the ready part of the body aside. Stuff the head with fiberfill
and continue crocheting.

- Page 8 - Crochet pattern. Designed by Yana Yarunova 2023 @yarunovaˍtoys https://whiteartline.etsy.com

Start stuffing the head. Push the fiberfill into the muzzle with the fingers.
Rnd 19: (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)
Rnd 20: 1 sc, dec, (2 sc, dec)*5, 1 sc (18) complete stuffing the head. Distribute
the fiberfill inside the cheeks.

Rnd 21: (1 sc, dec)*6 (12)

Rnd 22: 6 dec (6) stuff with fiberfill. Break yarn, leaving a long tail for tightening
the hole. Tighten the hole, secure the yarn tails into the knot, and hide it inside.

Horns: make 2
Crochet with black yarn.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 5 sc (5)
Rnds 2-3: 5 sc (5)
Rnd 4: inc, 2 sc, inc, 1 sc (7)
Rnd 5: 7 sc, sl st, try the horn on the head of the dragon before fastening the work.
Perhaps, you may want to increase it and crochet the additional 1-2 rounds. Break
yarn, secure, and stuff with fiberfill, shaping a small bend with the fingers.

- Page 9 - Crochet pattern. Designed by Yana Yarunova 2023 @yarunovaˍtoys https://whiteartline.etsy.com

Small spikes (for the muzzle): make 4
Crochet with the additional color yarn.
Rnd 1: Chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain
from hook 5 sc (5)
Rnd 2: 5 sc (5)
Turn the part right side up after the second round. Use a
wooden sushi stick to make it easier. Press the wide part
of the stick onto the middle of the 1st round and twist it, straightening out. Pull the
tip from the beginning of crocheting, cut it shorter if needed, and hide it inside the
part with the wooden stick. I clarified these points because we will crochet the
spikes later.

Rnd 3: 5 sc, sl st (5) – break yarn and pull the tail through the loop with the hook.
Hide the yarn tail inside the spike using a wooden stick.

- Page 10 - Crochet pattern. Designed by Yana Yarunova 2023 @yarunovaˍtoys https://whiteartline.etsy.com

Fins: make 2
Crochet in back and forth rows with the basic color yarn. Start crocheting each row
in the second chain from hook.
Row 1: chain 8, start crocheting in the second chain from hook sl st, 6 sc, chain 1,
turn (7)
Row 2: 3 sc, chain 3, turn (6)
Row 3: sl st, 4 sc, chain 1, turn (5)

Row 4: 3 sc, chain 5, turn (3)

Row 5: sl st, 6 sc, chain 1 (6)

Turn to the 1st row and crochet 5 sl st to the side. Pull the working yarn through
the loop and cut it. Tie the tails into 2 knots.

Head assembly.
Chain 60 with the additional color yarn. Cut
yarn, leaving a long tail (we need it for
unraveling and securing it).

Thread the needle with the sewing thread of the additional color and sew the chain,
as guided in the photo. Place the toy facing you. Sew it from the right to the left
eye, pulling the chain. Pay attention to the nose bridge. I sewed it two times,
making it less visible. Also, I made the additional stitches in the corners next to
the eyes. Please watch the detailed video.

Click the icon to watch the video: sew the chain to the head of the
dragon.

See the final result in the photo below. Everything is beautiful and symmetrical
from all sides. The thread of a different color is not visible.

- Page 12 - Crochet pattern. Designed by Yana Yarunova 2023 @yarunovaˍtoys https://whiteartline.etsy.com

Muzzle sculpting:
Click the icon to watch the video: sculpt the muzzle.

Thread a long sewing needle with a 3-4 ply thread of

the additional color or another firm thread.
Place the pins between rounds 4-5 and 1 sc lower.
Sculpt the first eye on the right side. Insert the needle
following the directions of the arrows.
Tighten the thread firmly and tie it into 3-4 knots.
Repeat if needed.
Thread the needle with a new thread and sculpt the
second eye on the left side. Insert the needle and follow the direction of the
arrows. Draw the thread tails to the top of the head.

The muzzle design:

Click the icon to watch the video: how to design the muzzle. Sew the
spikes, fins, and horns.
Embroider the eyes with white plush yarn. Insert the needle into the base of the
head and draw it out on the bottom of the left eye. Insert the needle into the top of
the outer side of the eye (slightly above the middle) and draw it out on the outer
side of the right eye at the same level as the left eye (watch the video).
Make sure that you are satisfied with the result and carefully apply glue with a
toothpick or needle, and pull the thread. Insert the needle to the bottom of the
second eye and draw it out to the base of the head at the initial point. Carefully
apply glue on the thread again, and glue it. Tie threads into 2 knots, and hide inside
the head using the needle or hook.

Thread a long sewing needle with plush yarn of the basic color and embroider the
eyelids for our dragon (watch the detailed video). After that, embroider the muzzle
of the dragon with black YarnArt Jeans yarn as guided in the video.

Mark the position of the fins, pin them, and sew with the sewing thread matching
the color of our dragon. Try on the small spikes, pin them, and sew on both sides.

Attach the horns between rounds 15 and 17. The distance from the horns and sewn
chain is 1 sc.

Body, assembly:
Crochet with the basic color yarn. The stitch marker is in the middle on the
backside.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc)*6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Rnd 5: 24 sc (24)
Take the disk D=35 mm and the head of the dragon. Insert the split pin of the head
into the center of the first round of the body. Insert the split pin into the disk inside
the body and curl the ends with round-nosed pliers. Continue crocheting the body
following the pattern.

Rnd 6: 6 sc, place a stitch marker. Here, we will attach the upper paws. Crochet 12
sc, place the other marker for the second paw, 6 sc (24)
Rnd 7: (3 sc, inc)*6 (30)
Rnds 8-9: 30 sc – 2 rounds
- Page 25 - Crochet pattern. Designed by Yana Yarunova 2023 @yarunovaˍtoys https://whiteartline.etsy.com
Rnd 10: 9 sc, (1 sc, inc)*6, 9 sc (36)
Rnd 11: 36 sc (36)
At this stage, we will attach the upper paws.
Take the upper paws and 2 disks D=20 mm. Before attaching the paws, I
recommend stuffing the body and trying on the paws in the marked points
between rounds 6 and 7. If you are happy with their position, then attach the
paws to the body. If it seems a little high, then try on them lower and find the
best position. Remove the stuffing material from the body, insert the split pins
with the disks, and curl the ends using the pliers.

Rnd 12: 9 sc, (2 sc, inc)*6, 9 sc (42)

Rnds 13-17: 42 sc (42) – 5 rounds
Rnd 18: 10 sc, place a stitch marker. Here, we will attach the bottom paws.
Crochet 22 sc, place the other marker for the second paw, and crochet 10 sc (42)
Rnd 19: (5 sc, dec)*6 (36)

Stuff the upper part of the body firmly and distribute the stuffing material into the
upper part of the belly, shaping it.

Rnd 21: (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)

Rnd 22: 1 sc, dec, (2 sc, dec)*5, 1 sc (18)
At this stage, we will attach the bottom paws.
Before attaching the paws, I recommend stuffing the body and trying on the paws
in the additional marked points between rounds 18 and 19. Make sure that they are
symmetrical to the upper paws and that you are happy with their position according
to their length. If the marked points are not suitable then find new points and mark
them. Remove stuffing material from the body, which may prevent attaching the
paws. Insert the split pins with the disks D=40 mm into the body and cure the ends
using the pliers. Stuff the bottom part of the body.

a tapestry needle, secure and hide the tail.

Thread-joint of the paws.

Click the icon to watch the video: how to attach the paws with a thread-
joint.
If you do not have split pin or cotter pin joints, then use a thread-joint. To do this,
assemble the head and sew it to the body so that the additional markers of the
body between rounds 6 and 18 are strictly on the sides.
Mark the position of the head and fix it with two knitting needles. Thread the
tapestry needle with a long scrap of 3-4 ply thread matching the color of the body
and sew the head with long stitches. Remove the knitting needles and make sure
that the head is attached evenly. If you are happy with its position then complete
sewing the head to the body.

Attach the upper and bottom paws with knitting needles. If you are not satisfied
with their position then mark the new points. Thread a long tapestry needle with
a firm thread and insert it in the middle of the future tail. Draw it out at the

marked point of the legs. Pierce the needle between rounds 20 and 21 of the
bottom paws, grabbing 6 stitches. Make sure that these stitches are in the middle
on the side of the paw. Insert the needle into the body at the same point where
you have placed the marker, and draw it out at the point of the second marker.
Grab 6 sc of the second bottom paw similarly, insert the needle into the
body of our dragon (at the point of the second marker), and draw it out at the
point of the first marker. Pull the paw and repeat it one more time. After that,
draw the needle out to the position of the upper paws. Pierce the needle through
the upper paw between rounds 15 and 16, grabbing 3 sc. Make sure that these
stitches are exactly in the middle on side of the paw. Insert the needle in the body
at the point of the first upper paw and draw it out on the opposite side at the point
of the second paw.
Pull the thread and insert the needle in the second paw, grabbing 3 sc. Insert
the needle into the body at the point of the second paw and draw it out at the
point of the first paw. Repeat one more time, draw the needle out in the middle
of the tail, tie the thread into two knots, and cut the excess thread. Try on the tail
and sew it.

Click the icon to watch the video: how to crochet around the wing,
crochet the stripes and sew them to the holder.
On the wrong side, insert the hook in the middle on the upper corner of the wing.
Grab the yarn of the basic color and crochet 1 sc. Crochet 14 sc along the wing on
the wrong side towards the first tip of the wing (direction No. 1). Once you reach
it, chain 1, and start crocheting 13 sc along the front part of the wing towards the
upper corner of the wing (direction No. 2). (Watch the video)

Complete crocheting to the upper corner and chain 1. Next, crochet 15 sc along the
wing on the wrong side towards the second tip (direction No. 3). Once you reach
it, chain 1 and continue crocheting 13 sc along the front part of the wing towards
the upper corner of the wing (direction No. 4). Crochet 1 sl st to the upper corner
and pull the thread through the loop, and break yarn.

Draw the threads to the wrong side of the wing with the hook and tie them into two
knots. Do this so that the ends of the thread on the upper corner of the wing are
under the wing holder when we sew it. When we look at the wrong side, the holder
must be on the right side of one wing, and the left side of the second. With that in
mind, hide the yarn tails, fasten off, and cut them. Secure with a lighter.

Holder of the wing: make 2

Crochet with the basic color yarn.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from
hook 6 sc (6)
Rnds 2-12: 6 sc (6) – 11 rounds. Finish the last round with
sl sts. Break yarn and secure it. Hide the yarn tail inside. Do
not stuff. Crochet the second part similarly.

When crocheting the first part, finish the 3rd round with sl st, break yarn and hide
the tail. Do not cut yarn of the second part and continue crocheting the heart.
Join two parts together. Put two parts with the right sides facing each other and
crochet 2 sc through both loops.

Continue crocheting as guided in the pattern:

Rnd 4: 6 sc to the part, dec (insert the hook in the 7th sc of the first part and grab
the working yarn. Pull the yarn through the joint point of two parts and make one
decrease), crochet to the second part, 6 sc, dec (insert the hook in the 7th sc of the
first part and grab the working yarn. Pull the yarn through the joint point of two
parts and make one decrease) (14)
Rnd 5: 2 sc, dec, 6 sc, dec, 2 sc (12)
Rnd 6: (1 sc, dec)*4 (8) – stuff with fiberfill
Rnd 7: 4 dec, sl st (4) – break yarn and pull the tail through the loops.
Stuff the heart with fiberfill with the wooden stick. Sew the holes of the heart
with a tapestry needle. Tie the tails into a knot, and hide the tails inside.

Pin the front part to the body of the Dragon. Thread the needle with the thread
matching the color of the front part. Attach the thread to the right edge, then sew
it under the head to the body. Do not forget that the head is movable (there is no
need to sew it to the head). Turn down and sew on. In the process, stop and make
sure that the distance from the upper paws is symmetrical on both sides. Then sew
it to the tail, paying attention to the symmetry of the space on the right and left
sides. Once you reach the tip of the tail – draw the yarn tail to the heart. After that,
sew it along the other side similarly.
Click the icon to watch the video: how to embroider the stripes on the
front part.

Thread the tapestry needle with a long plush thread of the basic color and
embroider the stripes on the front part, as guided in the video. The distance
between the stripes is 3 rows. Embroider the stripes on the tip of the tail.

Spikes for the head: make 3
Crochet with the basic color yarn.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc)*2 (6)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc)*3, sl st (9) – break yarn and pull the tail through the loop. Do
not stuff. Make a triangular shape of the tip of the spike with the fingers.
Spikes for the back and tail:
Crochet with the additional color yarn. Make 2 spikes for the back and one spike
for the tail.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc)*2 (6)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc)*3, sl st (9) - break yarn and pull the tail through the loop. Do
not stuff. Make a triangular shape of the tip of the spike with the fingers.
The second spike on the tail:
Crochet with the additional color yarn.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc)*2 (6)
Rnd 3: 6 sc, sl st (6) - break yarn and pull the tail through the loop. Do not stuff.
Make a triangular shape of the tip of the spike with the fingers.
The third spike on the tail:
Crochet with the additional color yarn.
Rnd 1: chain 2 and start crocheting in the second chain from hook 4 sc (4)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc)*2 (6) - break yarn and pull the tail through the loop. Do not stuff.
Make a triangular shape of the tip of the spike with the fingers.

Pin the spikes to the head from the 18th round (along the backside of the head). The
distance between the spikes is 1 row (1 sc). Sew the spikes to the head using a
sewing needle and thread, matching the color of the head. Once you sew the third
spike – fasten off. We will sew the spikes to the back and tail with the other thread
(the head is movable).
Click the icon to watch the video: how to sew the spikes and wings.

Mark the position of the spikes on the back and sew them. Pin the spikes to the
tail: the distance between the big, middle and small spikes is 2 rounds.

Put the Dragon with the backside facing you and pin the wings below the middle
of the back between the head and tail, skipping 2 sc from the spikes before the
holder to the side (guide on your toy).
Turn to the front side and see the result. Correct the position of the wings if needed
and sew them to the back of the Dragon.

Congratulation! Your dragon is finished! I wish it gives many joys and happiness
to you and your family! :) :) :)
Thank you for crocheting with me! :) :) :)
I would very grateful for feedback in my shop!
