Introduction To Learning Guide

This document provides information about an Environmental Management module for first year students. It includes the module code, credits, purpose, outcomes, schedule, assessments, assignments, required textbook, and ECSA exit level outcomes. The module aims to create awareness of the effects of human activities on the environment and the processes, technology, legislation, and financial provisions required to manage environmental impacts. Assessments include two class tests, assignments, and mini tests. A group assignment assessing ECSA outcome 7, which evaluates understanding of engineering impacts on social and environmental well-being, must be passed for an overall pass in the module.

ECSA Exit Level Outcome 7 is assessed through Group assignment in this module, the group
must demonstrate the ability to understand the impacts engineering advancements have on
the social and psychologically wellbeing of humans and animals together with their
immediate environment. A 50% pass must be achieved for the assignment for the learner to
pass the module.
ECSA Exit Level outcomes

The ten exit level outcomes for Bachelor of Engineering Technology programme :
Exit Level Outcome 1: Problem Solving
Apply engineering principles to systematically diagnose and solve well-defined engineering problems.

Exit Level Outcome 2: Application of scientific and engineering knowledge. Demonstrate competence to apply knowledge of
mathematics, natural science and engineering sciences to define and applied engineering procedures, processes, systems and
methodologies to solve well-defined engineering problems.

Exit Level Outcome 3: Engineering Design.

Demonstrate competence to perform procedural and non-procedural design of well-defined components, systems, works, products or
processes to meet desired needs within applicable standards, codes of practice and legislation.

Exit Level Outcome 4: Investigations, experiments and data analysis.

Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant data from codes, catalogues, data bases and literature to
conduct tests and measurements and design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusions.

Exit Level Outcome 5: Engineering methods, skills and tools, including Information Technology.
Demonstrate competence to use appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools, including basic information
technology and prediction methodologies for the solution of well-defined engineering problems, with an understanding of the
limitations, restrictions, premises, assumptions and constraints.
ECSA Exit Level Outcomes

Exit Level Outcome 6: Professional and technical communication.

Demonstrate competence to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with engineering audiences.

Exit Level Outcome 7: Impact of engineering activity.

Demonstrate knowledge and under-standing of the impact of engineering activity on the society, economy, industrial and physical
environment, and address issues by defined procedures.

Exit Level Outcome 8: Individual and teamwork.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles, apply these to one’s own work, as a member and
leader in a technical team to, and manage projects

Exit Level Outcome 9: Independent learning ability.

Demonstrate competence to engage in independent and life-long learning through well-developed learning skills.
