IV. PROCEDURES
TEACHING HINT TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary
Activities
1. Greetings Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am!

2. Opening prayer Before we start, may I ask everyone to please (The assigned student will lead
stand up and Mr./Ms. , kindly lead the the opening prayer)
opening prayer.

3. Securing cleanliness Okay. Before you take your seats, please pick (The students will follow)
and orderliness up the pieces of dirt under your chairs and
arrange your seats properly.

4. Checking of Class secretary, who is/are absent today? (The class secretary will
attendance respond)
Thank you, Mr./Ms. .

5. Recalling past lesson Before we start our lesson today, let us first have
a recall activity entitled Pair Me Up!

Recall Activity Instruction:

The teacher will post several questions about

the multiplication of integers and the
multiplication of polynomials along with their
corresponding answers on the board. The
questions and the answers will be posted, and
students will pair up the given questions with
their correct answers.
The teacher will call five students who will
answer the activity on the board.

Questions: Answers: Expected students’ answers.

1. (-2)(-4) A. -8x4y4 1. B. 8
2. (x3)(x4) B. 8 2. F. x7
3. (2xy)(-4x3y3) C. 3a3 + 12ab2 3. A.-8x4y4
4. (3a)(a2 + 4b2) D. a2 + 8a + 15 4. C. 3a3+ 12ab2
5. (a + 3)(a + 5) E. a2 + 15a + 15 5. D. a2 + 8a + 15
F. x7

Very good! Now let us analyze and understand

how you were able to get the correct answer.

Let us start with:

1. How did you get the answer 8? I followed the rules in

multiplying integers.

Very good! Remember that the product of like

signs is always positive (+) and the product of
unlike signs is always negative (-).
2. How did you get the answer x7? I followed the product of a power
rule.

Very good! Remember that a product of power

has the same base, like the same variables we
have here which is x, so we can simply add their
exponents that gave us the answer (x3)(x4)= x7.

3. How did you get the answer -8x4y4? I followed the rule of multiplying
a monomial by a monomial.

Very good! Remember that when you multiply

two monomials, you must multiply first the
numerical coefficients following the rules in
multiplying integers, followed by multiplying
the literal coefficient.

4.How did you get the answer 3a3 + 12ab2? I used the distributive property
rule.

Very good. Remember, when you multiply a

monomial by a binomial, you must multiply the
given monomial by the first term of the binomial
followed by multiplying the given monomial by
the second term of the binomial.

5. How about number 5? What is the correct Answers may vary.

answer?

Okay, so the correct answer is the letter D. Can Answers may vary.
anyone show to the class the solution?

I understand that you are not familiar with the

solution for this one as this is a product of two
binomials.

To know the steps in multiplying two binomials, Learning Objectives:

let us have another activity, but first let us read 1. Know the steps in
the learning objectives for today. multiplying binomials
using FOIL Method,
2. Multiply binomials using
FOIL Method
3. Apply multiplying
binomials using
FOIL Method in real-
life situations.

B. Lesson Proper Activity 1: The student will listen and

follow the activity instruction.
Activity Activity Description:
The activity will give the students an idea of
what the FOIL Method is. The activity is a race
to find the correct answer. The first question
will be participated by the first four members
of each group, the second question will be
participated by the remaining members of each
group and the third question will be
participated by the losing groups.

Activity Instruction:

Each group will answer the posted question on

the board and the first one to write the answer
on the board will be given a prize.

Note:

1. The member of the group will sit

vertically, and nobody will be allowed
to get up where they are seated (except
for the member who will write the
answer).
2. The first member seated in front will
handle the question card and will write
the final answer on the board.
3. The last member seated at the back
will handle the monomial cards.
4. The members in the middle will check
the answer to the monomial cards
passed to them.

*Question card contains the two binomials to

be multiplied, color-coded of the terms to be
multiplied together.

Example: (Question Card 1)

*Monomial cards contain the monomials to be

multiplied together.

Example:
(2x) (x)
(2x) (3)

(4) (x)

(4) (3)

Question Card 3:

Analysis Collaborative discussion on the analysis of the

activity.

The students will be guided by the following

questions;

1. What kind of polynomial do we have in They are binomials.

the activity?

2. Very good! We have the product of two The first terms are 2x and x.
binomials in the activity. Can anyone
identify the first terms in:(2x + 4) (x + 3)?

3. How about the second terms? The second terms are 4 and 3.
Very good! Illustrating that, we will have;

If I am to draw a circle on those two binomials,

like;

You can see that there are terms inside and Yes!
outside of the circle drawn, right?

4. What are the terms inside the circle? The terms are 4 and x.

5. Very good! 4 is the second term in the first

binomial and x is the first term in the second The terms are 2x and 3.
binomial. Now what are the terms outside the
circle?
Very good! 2x is the first term of the first
binomial and 3 is the second term in the second
binomial.

Therefore, to multiply two binomials, we first

have to multiply the first terms of the binomial
given.

6. What do you think is next? Multiply the outer terms.

7. Very good! After multiplying the outer Multiply the inner terms.
terms, what do you think is next?

8. Very good! Then the last thing you need to Multiply the last terms.
do is?

Now, do not forget to add them all together and

simplify. If there are similar terms, combine
them.

Are we clear? Yes, ma’am.

Okay, so let us now summarize what we have

Abstraction discussed.

1. What is one of the methods we can use to get FOIL Method

the product of two binomials?

2. What does FOIL Method stands for? FOIL Method stands for
multiplying the first terms,
multiplying the outer terms,
multiplying the inner terms and
multiplying the last terms.

Application Students will use the FOIL Method card and Expected answers of the
answer the questions posted on the board. students;

1. (6x – 5)(2x – 1) 1.(6x – 5) (2x – 1)

= 12x2 – 6x – 10x + 5
= 12x2 – 16x + 5

2. (3a + 9b)(2a – 5b) 2.(3a + 9b) (2a - 5b)

= 6a2 – 15ab + 18ab – 40b2
= 6a2 + 3ab – 40b2
or 6a2 - 40b2 + 3ab
3. ( 3m – 2)(4m + 5) 3.(3m – 2) (4m + 5)
= 12m2 + 15m – 8m – 10
= 12m2 + 7m – 10

Assessment Multiply the following: (The students will now answer

the quiz.)
1. (5a + 11c)(2a – 3c)
2. (7x + 1)(7x + 1)
3. (11x – 14y) (3x + 8y)
4. (7e – 3d) ( 2e – d)
5. (4m - 2n) (3m – n)
6. (7x−6 ¿ (3x−9 ¿
7. ( x 2−10) (x + y)
8. (-3 x+ 8 ¿( x 2 +7)
9. (3 x 2+ 5 x ¿( x +2 x 2)
10. (2 x 2+ 14 x ¿ (−x 2+1)
