D. Discussing new Patterns of Development
concepts and
practicing new skills 1. Exemplification/Classification- Exemplification (or illustration) is the
most common and effective pattern to explain an idea or point. In
developing this kind of paragraph, the writer develops a general
statement –the topic sentence, with one or more examples to support it.
On the other hand, classification is used when a writer needs to sort
out or arrange subjects to groups or categories based on their common
and shared characteristics.

2. Comparison and Contrast- Comparison in writing discusses elements

that are similar while contrast in writing discusses elements or ideas
that are different. A compare-and-contrast essay, then analyzes two
subjects comparing them, contrasting them, or both. However, its
purpose is not to simply state the obvious but rather to illustrate subtle
differences or unexpected similarities between two subjects.

3. Cause and Effect- Cause and Effect is a text development pattern

which explains why something happens. It also states what results a
particular event produces. It usually gives a statement emphasizing the
cause and another emphasizing the effect.
E. Developing WORD ELIMINATION!
Mastery The students should think of a word that ends with “tion”. The student who cant
give a word in the count of five will be the one to read and answer the question.
1. A marketing strategist working for a cosmetics company wants to
showcase the effectiveness of your skincare products through real-life
testimonials and before-and-after photos.
2. A history professor prepares a lecture on two prominent leaders from
different erasand he want to students understand the similarities and
differences between them.
3. A biology teacher, plans a lesson on the classification of living organisms
for high school students.
4. A social scientist conducting research on the impact of social media on
mental health.

H. Evaluating ¼ sheet of paper
Learning Directions: Distinguish the pattern of development in writing across disciplines
referred in the following text .

1. Perseverance is a quality essential for achieving success in the face of

adversity. For example, the story of Michael Jordan serves as a testament
to the power of perseverance. Despite being cut from his high school
basketball team, Jordan refused to give up on his dream of becoming a
professional athlete. Through hard work and determination, he went on to
become one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Similarly, Oprah
Winfrey faced numerous obstacles on her path to success, including a
challenging childhood marked by poverty and abuse.

C) Cause and effect
D) Classification

2. Deforestation has different environmental consequences, causing

widespread habitat loss and biodiversity depletion. As forests are cleared
for agricultural and industrial purposes, ecosystems are disrupted, leading
to the extinction of plant and animal species. Moreover, deforestation
contributes to climate change by reducing carbon sequestration,
exacerbating global warming.

3. In the world of cuisine, sushi and pizza stand out as iconic dishes that
exemplify the culinary diversity of different cultures. While sushi, originating
from Japan, showcases the delicate artistry of raw fish and vinegared rice,
pizza, a staple of Italian cuisine, epitomizes the comforting combination of
dough, sauce, and cheese. Despite their distinct origins and ingredients,
sushi and pizza share similarities in their global popularity and adaptability
to various palates. However, they contrast in their preparation methods,
with sushi requiring precision and finesse in rolling and slicing, while pizza
relies on simplicity and creativity in topping combinations. Despite these
differences, both sushi and pizza serve as beloved comfort foods that bring
people together to savor unique flavors and share memorable dining
experiences.

4. Today, men and women of all ages undergo surgery to feel good about
themselves. Three of the most popular surgical procedures are liposuction,
facelifts, and hair transplants. First, liposuction is a quick fix for those who
find good diet and exercise ineffective and time consuming. Next, surgical
facelifts promise men and women a younger and fresher look. Lastly, hair
transplants are now possible, especially for balding men. Thanks to
medical advances, men can now avoid the harsh reality of losing their hair
by undergoing a long-lasting hair transplant procedure.
