Activity 1
Read and answer these questions:
1. In what kind of jobs do you need to go on trips?
2. In what kind of jobs do you need to do sports?
3. What kind of jobs involve working with no people?
4. Do you know someone whose job involves working with animals?
5. Do you think you are qualified to work as a gardener?
6. Do you think you are qualified to work as a cashier?
7. Have you ever had a summer job?
8. Did you have to go to an interview?
9. Would you like to have a summer job this year?
10. What would you like to do?
11. Do you think you are qualified to do that job?
12. Do you think it is important to be qualified to do any kind of job?
13. Do you think It is important to receive training before getting any job?

Stage 2 Look at these two examples:


I never have enough money.
I have no oranges in the fridge.

1. What is the meaning of these two target words?


2. Do they have the same structure?
3. What do they modify? The subject? The verb? The noun?
1. Read worksheet 1, page 1 to support your investigation.

Activity 2
Answer the following:
1 Do “that so” and “so” have the same meaning in these two examples?
He walked on tiptoe so that nobody would hear him.
We couldn’t find the key, so we couldn’t open the door.
2 Explain.
3 Should we use a comma only with so?
4 Can they be used in any verb time?
5 Read and practice in worksheet 1, pages 2 and 3 to support your investigation.

Activity 3
Read the sentence and answer:
Bella doesn’t know how to drive, does she?

1. What is/are the function(s) of “does she?” in the sentence?


2. Can I use a negative structure at the end of a sentence?
3. Does it always have the same intonation?
4. Read and practice on worksheet 1, pages 4 and 6 to support your investigation
5. Support your research working on the link called Questions tags.
6. Practice question tags intonation on link Take a challenge.

Activity 4
1. Do you recognize these two symbols /j/ and /dʒ/?
2. How do you pronounce this minimal pair “yellow - jello”?
3. Do they have the same pronunciation?
4. How do you pronounce the words “university, union”?
Are their initial sounds similar to the initial sounds in “yellow” or in “jello”?

Activity 1
Read the job advert and email on link Summer jobs.
1. Work on the sections check your understanding and check your answer.
2. Pretend you are a university student and you’re looking for a summer job. Read the
advertisement again and then write an email to apply for a job. Think about these
things:
 Paragraph 1: Introduce yourself. What do you do? Why are you writing this email?
 Paragraph 2: Write about your skills. What are you studying? What can you teach?
Which are your hobbies?
 Paragraph 3: When can you work?

Activity 2
1. Suppose you are applying for a summer job, and you are not sure if you are or
not qualifiedfor it. Write a dialogue about that.

Stage 4 Activity 1
1. Write an application letter to apply for this summer job too and include all your
personal references on it.
