First Edition, 2020
Republic Act 8293, Section 176 states that no copyright shall subsist in
any work of the Government of the Philippines. However, prior approval of the
government agency or office wherein the work is created shall be necessary for
exploitation of such work for profit. Such agency or office may, among other things,
impose as a condition the payment of royalties.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them
to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an
active learner.
Posttest - This measure how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATIONS
In the previous lesson, you have learned the different hints for evolutionary
concept. These include the fossil records, comparative anatomy and genetic
information. Based on the evidence of evolution various theories have been put
forth regarding the evolution of life. The question of how organism changes and
new species developed. There were number of theories about evolutions, however
the most important are the theory postulated by Lamarck and Darwin.

ACROSS
1. _________________ Anatomy refers to the study of similarities and differences in
the anatomy of different species.
2. It refers to the species change over time.
3._________________ information is provided by the biochemical analysis and amino
acid sequence of the organism’s DNA.
DOWN
4. ________________ dating is a method used to determine the age of the rocks by
comparing them with the rocks in the other layer.
5. It refers to the traces of organisms that lived in the past and were preserved by
natural process
LESSON
ACTIVITIES
ACTIVITY 1
Lamarck’s and Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
Lamarck believed that giraffes used to have short necks, but because they
ate on tall trees, they always stretched them to reach food until their necks became
long. This trait was later inherited by offsprings and propagated by the next
generations of giraffes. And Lamarck called it Theory of Acquired Characteristics.
Guide questions
Procedure:
1. Study and observe the sets of footprints in the diagram below.

Guide Questions:
1. Look at diagram 1, how many sets of footprints do you see? What can you
say about the organisms based on the size of footprints?

over time through natural selection.
________________5. It is a process through which living organisms change over
time.

ACTIVITY 3
POSTTEST
3. Which of the following statements best explains the Theory of Natural Selection?
a. Acquired characteristics of parents can be passed on to offspring.
b. Organs that are not used may disappear, while organs that are constantly
used may develop.
c. In nature, the organism with desirable characteristics may survive, while
those with weaker traits may not.
d. Organisms develop desirable structures to survive in a given environment.
4. Which of the following statements explains Lamarkc,s Theory of Use and Disuse?
a. Body structures develop because of mutation.
b. Body structures develop because they are not in use.
c. Body structures develop because of competition.
d. Body structures develop because they are used extensively.
