Lessons Let’s read the poem about the vertebrates.

Elicit Vertebrates

Have you ever seen, animals that swim?

They have gills,fins, and scales

Spotted in the sea, oceans, and rivers

These are fish like tilapia, swordfish, and milkfish.

Have you ever seen animals that crawl?

They have dry-scaly skin just like snakes, lizards,

and turtles

Some have four legs, others have none.

These are reptiles hatched from eggs.

Have you ever seen four-legged animals that hop

and jump?

They have fur, some have hairs, others have skin.

They give birth, feed their young with their

mammary glands.

They are mammals like dogs, cats, and goats.

Have you ever seen animals that fly?

They have wings, beak, and claws.

Living in trees and forests, building their nests in

trunks

They are birds like parrots, owls, and doves.

Have you ever seen animals that croak?

They have smooth scaly skin living on land and in

water.

They love to hop and eat insects at night.

These are amphibians just like salamanders, toads,

and frogs.

Did you have fun learning?

Pupil 1: It was my first time to

do an activity task with real
animals here at school Ma’am.

That’s great to hear that you have already

explored something new in our class.

For now, everyone please settle down

because we’re having our new discussion.

*Pupil follows*

The presence of the backbone is a common

characteristic among vertebrates. They can be
classified or subdivided into five groups:
amphibians, fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals.

Fishes have tails, gills, and fins adapted for living

in aquatic habitats.

Amphibians can live in water and on land and

they have thin, slimy soft skin.

Reptiles have developed lungs that they can live

on land for long period and can live in water.

Birds have feathers, live on land and can fly.

Mammals have mammary glands that produce
milk. They have hair and fur and live on land.
* Monotremes- egg-laying mammals, ex.
platypus, echidnas
* Marsupials- their young-ones will be fully
developed outside the body while they are carried
in the pouch by the mother. Ex. kangaroos,
wallabies
*Placental- the young are carried in the mother’s
womb and get outside when they are fully
developed.

living
Do you understand?

Yes, Ma’am!

In Class of Mrs. Santos, she asked the pupils about

their pets at home. Grace, who was an Ibanag girl
cheerfully shared about her pet, it was a wild boar
or Baboy Ramo. Upon hearing Grace, one of the
pupils shouted, yuck, Ibanag! this made the other
pupils begin to laugh. Grace cheeks cheeks turned
red as she began to cry.

To what ethnic group does Grace belong?

Student 1: Ma’am from the

Very good! Ibanag.

The Ibanag (also Ybanag and Ybanak or Ibanak

) are an ethnolinguistic minority numbering a little
more than half a million people, who inhabit the
provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva
Vizcaya. They are one of the largest
ethnolinguistic minorities in the Philippines.

Wild boars have a typical domestic pig shape with

a long, blunt snout, small eyes, and large ears.
They are more long-legged and appear more
powerful than domestic pigs. They may also have
a small hump on their shoulder.

To what group of animals does a wild boar

belong?

Pupil 2: The wild boar is

belonging to the group of
animals which mammals.
In Grace’s community, baboy ramo is a common
animal. The wild boars just roam around their
backyard. While for us who are living in the city,
it is very unusual to have baboy ramo in our home
which is why some of her classmates laughed
when they heard Grace.
(inter-discipline integration)

(Addressing Indigenous need and Values

Integration)

Pupils remember these things I’m going to say.

It is not good to laugh at other people even if

they belong to ethnic groups or indigenous people.

What do Grace's classmates must do?

Mrs. Santos must tell the pupils that they have

to respect the indigenous people like Grace and
even other people. If we respect other people, we
also respect God and ourselves.

Questions:
1. What did Grace experience with her classmates?
Pupil 4: Grace experienced to
be humiliated and embarrassed
2. Is it nice to bully a classmate? Why? to the whole class because her
classmates make fun of her and
her pet.

Pupil 5: No, Ma’am. Because

Very good! Give them an angel clap we can hurt others’ emotions
and feelings, we should spread
love and positivity to each
other.

1.,2… woot woot
(Integration across learning Areas) 1.,2.,3., whooooh!

Do you know that there is a law particularly the

Republic Act No. 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Act
of 2013 that protects children from different forms
of bullying? So do not be a bully or else you will
be punished under this law.
