1. Four major types of IS do you think is the most valuable to an organization?

The four major types of IS are Management Information System, Decision Support
System, Executive Support System and Transaction Process System.

In my opinion, the most valuable IS to an organization is the transaction process system

which is an information processing system for business transactions involving
the collection, modification and retrieval of all transaction data. Characteristics of a
TPS include performance, reliability and consistency. TPS is also known as transaction
processing or real-time processing.

Importance of transaction processing systems in an organization are handling of

operations where one distinct importance of a TPS is its ability to simultaneously
process several transactions. An up-to-date transaction processing system can
concurrently manage and coordinate thousands of customer orders. This allows the
business to make the selling process less complicated for customers and also provides
an online option to customers.

Untapped markets
A TPS gives business ease of sales as it allows the benefit of implementing a
transaction anywhere in the world. This gives the business a wider reach and enables
the business to reach and gain customers from around the world.

● real-time data, particularly useful where fast action is needed (eg mechanical fault)
● archived data, particularly useful for reports, analysis and business planning

● operational efficiencies
● cost reductions
● supply of information to decision-makers
● better customer service
● continuous availability of the systems
● growth in communication capabilities and methods

To maximise the benefits of your IT system, you have to fully utilise all its features and functions.

access it at a time thereby reducing security threats from the third parties and
ensuring smooth operations.

Business
Since the arrival of computers, the entire face of the business world has been

“Citizen-Centric Services” as its guiding principle. However, implementation has
