26. Let us assume that (2+ 3√2) / 7 is a rational no.

so (2+ 3 √2) / 7 = p/q, q 0, HCF(p, q) = 1
3 √2 / 7 = p/q – 2
√2 / 7 = (p – 2q)/3q
√2 = 7(p – 2q)/3q
Clearly R.H.S is rational and L.H.S is irrational, which is impossible.
Hence our assumption is false.
So, (2 +3 √2) / 7 is an irrational number.

28. Let the time taken by 1 woman alone to finish an embroidery be x days and the time
taken by 1 man alone to finish an embroidery be y days. Then 1 woman's 1 day's work
= 1/x
and 1 man’s 1 day’s work = 1/y
2 women’s 1 day’s work = 2/x
and 5 man’s 1 day’s work = 5/y
2 women and 5 men can together finish a piece of embroidery in 4 days.
4(2/x + 5/y) = 1 2/x+5/y = l/4 ...(1)
Again, 3 women and 6 men can together finish a piece of embroidery in 3 day
3(3/x + 6/y) = 1 3/x + 6/y = 1 /3 ...(2)
Put 1/x = u and 1/y = v
Solve to get x = 18 and y = 36
Hence, the time taken by 1 women alone to finish the embroidery is 18 days and the
time taken by 1 man alone to finish the embroidery is 36 days.

32. She got the marks in Mathematics = (30-x) If she got marks in English = (x-3)

and in Mathematics (32-x)

According to problem

(x-3)(32-x) = 210
→35x-96-x2 = 210

→ x²-35x+306 = 0

→ x²-18x-17x+3060 ⇒x(x-18)-17(x-18) = 0

→ (x-18)(x-17) = 0

x = 18, 17

Hence,.. If she got marks in English = 18, then in Mathematics = 17 If she got marks in English = 17
then

she got marks in Mathematics = 18

Or
According to the Question

⇒ x + y = 30 ..... (i)

⇒ (x + 2) (y - 3) = 210 .....(ii)
From Eq (i) put x = 30 - y in Eq (ii)

⇒ (30 - y + 2) (y - 3) = 210

⇒ (32 - y) (y - 3) = 210

⇒ 32y - 96 - y² + 3y = 210

⇒ y² - 35y + 306 = 0

⇒ y² - 18y - 17y + 306 = 0

⇒ y (y - 18) - 17 (y - 18) = 0

⇒ (y - 18) (y - 17) = 0

⇒ y = 18, 17

Putting y = 18 and 17 in Eq (i), we get

x = 12 and 13

Hence, his marks in hindi can be 12 and 13 and in english his marks can be 18 and 17.

33.

34. We have, radius of the hemisphere = 3.5 cm

Height of the cone = 4 cm
Radius of the cylinder = 5 cm
Height of the cylinder = 10.5 cm
We have to find out the volume of water left in the cylindrical tub

Volume of the solid = Volume of its conical part + Volume of its hemispherical part

1 2
= 3 π𝑟²ℎ + 3
π𝑟³
Clearly, when the solid is submerged in the cylindrical tub the volume of water that
flows out of the cylinder is equal to the volume of the solid.
= 1/3 × 22/7 × (7/2)² × 11

Hence, Volume of water left in the cylinder = Volume of cylinder – Volume of the
solid =π r²h – vol. of solid = 683.83 cm3
