Abstract
The purpose of this practical study was to determine the objective, vision, mission of Berhan
International Bank. In this report then the main objective is to develop experience and skills
through training. It is Important to practice in order to have a successful stay in the working
place.
The internal and external factor were obtained by performing ASWOT analysis, the strength,
weakness, opportunity and threats obtained would help in the strategic planning of Berhan
International Bank Gununo branch to improve the performance of the training.s
Primary data was obtained from Berhan International Bank Gununo branch and data analyzed
using Berhan International Bank Various information. It was able to get various information by
doing training at the bank. The study also showed that the performance of the Berhan
International Bank is on the stages of growth.
The strength, weakness, opportunities and threats identified will be used in the strategic plan of
the banks to improve performance both directly in terms of financial growth and indirectly
through efficiency, cost and market structure.

CHAPTER ONE
1. INTRODUCTION
Berhan International Bank (BIB) is one of the oldest public banks established in 1942 as a
State Bank. Since then, BIB has gone through different reforms and mergers coming out as
one of the most reputable and biggest commercial banks in the country.
BIB is a pioneering bank in introducing and expanding banking services in Ethiopia. BIB has
played a tremendous role in the development of the country. BIB has been utilizing state-of-
the-art technologies and implementing improved working systems to provide modern and
full-fledged banking services. BIB has products and services designed to address different
sections of the society. BIB is working to become a world class bank by 2025. BIB has
subsidiary banks in South Sudan and Djibouti. It has more than 22 million account holders in
its 1700 branches stretching throughout the country. Its outreach to individual depositors,
small and medium scale businesses and private and public mega investment projects has
made it the largest single bank in the country to have a significant impact on the economy of
the country. BIB played a significant role as both the engine of the country’s economic
growth and mobilizing savings for further investment.
Berhan Internationa Bank (BIB) is one of the oldest public banks. Since then “BIB” has gone

commercial banks in the country. The best internship experience are those that help you gain
a knowledge and understanding of the organization you have been working have come to
know and understand considerably more than you did just by performing your daily task on
job.

2. Overview of the organization
Before they start work, the district gives two to three days of briefing to the employees
recruited from each branch about the banks operation and customer handling. the district will
give a one month training to the employees hired from each of the branch. among the
practices they will be given, for example, in terms of entry and exit time, how to treat
customers, the guide lines and rules issued at different times (they will be given a broad
explanation in relation to inheritance).after giving this types of training for about a month,
wod sends them to branches and in the branches thy are given experience for forty five days
in collaboration with existing employees. this gives practice from mouth handling to their
routines for example, it introduces the company’s own application, how to open a new
account, how and in what manner to treat customers at the window, how to issue a visa card,
how to open mobile banking, how to log in to the bank’s system, and how to provide other
services in general in the bank.
2.1. Training orientation
Yes I started the job with a good training orientation. As soon as I submitted the letter to the
bank manager he accepted my explanation and gave me the permission to do the training.
They gave me a detailed explanation of what would be useful for me and what I needed. I
started practicing on the second day after I submitted the letter. Mr the manager
of the Gununo branch bank gave me orientation for the first time and he gave me a good
explanation about the general situation of the bank like: what I should work, on which field
of work I should work on, how I should treat customers and the instructions and regulations
of the bank. They gave me a comprehensive explanation and I went to work with a good
understanding.
2.2 Where I started the training
I started training on August 7/12/2014 E.C when I first did my training. I started doing the
expenses and income for clients and getting clients to open BIB birr. I also used to get
customers to open new bank accounts and use ATM services.
2.3 The process since the day I started training
From the day I received the letter and started training they gave me regular training and
supervision. They provided me with general information about the institution and provided
me with sufficient supervision and encouragement for my work. for examples they explained

to me how I should provide banking services in a theoretical manner.
Which invites me to the field. During training MrLemnew.an employee of the bank
encouraged me more than anyone else in what I was do.

3. WHO I HAVE LEARNED
During my practice all the employees of the bank explained to me as much as possible.
During this training period Mr Moges the manager of the bank about the bank and explained
it to me as well as gave me an opinion about the work i was doing and he gave me the
training
The management internship course is a field experience program in an organization under
joint supervision of the instructor and member of the host organization. The intent of this
practical is to provide for an opportunity to gain experience in applied setting as a
compliment to the course work offered in the management program.
3.2. Department where I did training
The department where I was trained was to make customers use ATM cards services, make
customers who do not have commercial bank account open new books, and make customers
open and use BIB birr and mobile banking. This was the beginning of my training.
The role of practical training to experts need to continuously work upon their skill to apply
their theoretical knowledge in actual work place.
The role of BIB to provide basic banking services and products to general public. These
services include checking and savings accounts, loans and mortgages, basic investment
service such as CDs, as well as other services such as safe deposit boxes. The main role of
Commercial bank is to make customers happy through service delivery and to increase their
savings habits and make them profitable.
Each department employee has their own role. The manager manages the employees and
checks the customers who move a lot of many for example above 30000 birr. The accounts
handle the income and expenses of the customers.
Where I did more training
I have done training many times by opening BIB birr and mobile banking, using registered
customers for ATM service and making ATM cells to customer and opening new savings
accounts.

I was mostly trained in management related work and I was able to understand how the
manager controls and manages.
My training activity
There are a total of Twenty one employees in the Sodo branch of the Berhan International
Bank of which fourteen employees work separately at the customer service desk. There is a
branch manager and there is a business manager, operation manager and control manager.
Among them there are two employees who activate ATMs and new accounts and two courier
employees of the bank. The employees of the bank come in at two O’clock in the morning
and leave at eleven O’clock in the evening.
3.7. Description of working hour
When I was on training I worked four days a week and in the morning I come in at
2:30 and left at 6:00 the leave for lunch at 7:00 and half and leave at 10:30

The manager of this bank is behind the scenes and oversees every transaction; controlling
system the head of the bank controls the computer system with all the accountants.
The philosophies of BIB manager is to investment banking money and to link user’s capital
with providers of capital seeking optimum financial efficiency.

All the employees in the bank are very well mannered. Willing to train me at any time and
show me the information. I need and encourage me in my work.

The employees working in the bank welcome the trainee who comes for training.
They are willing to trained and demonstrate the staffs from the branch manager down are
happy to demonstrate what they know.
3.11. Is there any specific requirement for the employee’s trainee that were hired?
Yes, they will give special training to new employees in the institution. Newly hired
employees are given training for 45(forty five) days. The will be trained until they know the
system well.

During this two month training period the tasks I performed in the bank was mainly to open
BIB birr and mobile banking as well as to open ATMs and new accounts for customers.
