Title : Start taking vitamin C supplements

Central idea : Vitamin C is very essential to a healthy lifestyle so that your body are
able to grow, develop and repair cells properly.

INTRODUCTION

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence → Attention)

I. Have you ever seen someone throw fruits and vegetables while eating? Did you know
that the only way to get vitamin C into our body is eat fruit and vegetables?. (attention
getter)
A. So, how can this person provide Vitamin C to their body if they do not eat
balanced nutrition? In reality, most people do not prioritize the consumption of
fruits and vegetables. They are also unaware of the negative consequences of
eating fewer fruits and vegetables.
B. The National Health and Morbidity Survey shows that 95% of Malaysian do
not consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables daily.
C. That shows a lot of Malaysian does not have enough Vitamin C.

II. I have done some research on this issue (establish credibility). Vitamin C is known as
ascorbic acid.
A. Vitamin C is probably the best-known type of vitamin in comparison to other
vitamins. It is an essential water-soluble vitamin as it is required for several
processes. ( National Institutes of Health, 2020)
B. One of those is acting reducing agent in collagen synthesis. ( National
Institutes of Health, 2020)

III. As such, we should change our mindset about Vitamin C. So, the topic of my
presentation today is to start taking Vitamin C (introduce topic).
A. We need to take Vitamin C supplement as daily routine.
1. We need to consume Vitamin C to supporting the immune system that
can help stimulate the production and function of white blood cells.
2. Vitamin C can be obtained through food or supplements.
3. We need to consume Vitamin C in our life in order to avoid the
deficiency of Vitamin C that can bring harm to our health.

IV. So today, I would like to persuade everyone of you here to start taking Vitamin C
supplements because Vitamin C is important to our body.

(Transition: I will begin to introduce to everyone why vitamin C critically importance in our
body)

BODY

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence → Need)

I. Now, I will tell you the reason why you must consume vitamin C
A. First of all, there will be benefits of vitamin C.
1. Vitamin C helps neutralize free radicals, which are reactive molecules
that can cause cellular damage. Antioxidants play a role in protecting
cells from oxidative stress.
2. According to Marisa Moore (2019), research shows vitamin C is
essential for the growth and repair of tissue all over the body.
a. Oral vitamin C produces tissue and plasma concentrations which
are closely controlled by the body.
b. Vitamin C has a role to play in controlling and in curing wounds.
c. Collagen, a fibrous protein in the connective tissue that is woven
throughout the body’s different systems, is needed nervous,
immune, bone, cartilage, blood, and others. (Marisa Moore,2019)

B. The second reason is reduced duration and severity of colds.

1. While not a preventive measure, regular vitamin C supplementation has
been associated with a reduction in the duration and severity of cold
symptoms in some studies.
a. Some clinical studies have reported that regular vitamin C
supplementation, especially at the onset of cold symptoms, can
lead to a modest reduction in the duration of the cold. The effect
appears to be more pronounced in individuals who engage in
intense physical activity, such as marathon runners.
2. Vitamin C can immune system boosters
a. Vitamin C increases the production of B lymphocyte.
b. These white blood cells are a part of the antibody-mediated
immune response that produces antibodies. Such antibodies are
produced in response to an invading pathogen or antigen being
added in the first place. ( Ryan Raman, MS, RD, 2020)
c. Vitamin C helps these white blood cells function better while
protecting them from damage caused by potentially dangerous
molecules, such as free radicals.

(Transition: Now that you know the need of vitamin C in our body. Let me tell you the best
way to prevent shortage of Vitamin C.)

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence → Satisfaction)

II. There are several ways you can do to prevent shortage of Vitamin C.
A. Firstly, you need to know about how to cook your food.
1. According to the National Institutes Health, 2020) (Luke Maxfield,
Jonathan S.Crane,2020) prolonged storage and cooking may reduce the
vitamin C and remove nutritional value content of the food.

2. I can give you some tips to minimize the loss of vitamin C and retain
the nutritional value of food.
a. Minimize cooking time. You need to cook vegetables using
methods that require shorter cooking times, such as steaming or
microwaving, to preserve more of the vitamin C content.
b. Second is use minimal water. When cooking, use a little water
as possible, as vitamin C is water-soluble and can leach into the
cooking water. Steaming or microwaving with minimal water is
preferable.

B. Another way to prevent shortage of vitamin C is maintain a well-balanced diet

with a variety of nutrients to support overall health and immune function.
1. First of all, include a variety of fruits and vegetables. Different fruits
and vegetables provide a diverse range of vitamins, minerals,
antioxidants and fiber.
2. Secondly, include lean protein sources. You must include lean proteins
such as poultry, fish, beans, tofu, and nuts to meet your protein needs
without excessive saturated fat.

C. Last, you can consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking vitamin C
health supplements especially high doses.
1. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
(2020), vitamin C intake for adults males is 105.2 mg, day and 83.6
mg/ day for adult females.

(Transition: So, imagine that you does not have enough vitamin C in your body. What will
happen?)

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence → Visualization)

III. Well, let me tell you what will happen to your health if your body is deficient in
vitamin C.
A. Vitamin C deficiency can even cause a variety of health problems.
1. People can feel tired , weak, irritable. Severe deficiency, causes bruising,
gum and dental problems, dry hair and anemia.
2. A major vitamin C deficiency can result in scurvy. This condition involves
bone and blood vessel disease, bleeding in hands and feet, and in extreme
cases, can cause death.
B. Furthermore, deficiency in vitamin C also can be spotted by behavioral.
1. According to Health by Mikayla Morell behavioral symptoms are often
the first symptoms that present with a vitamin C deficiency. If you are
vitamin C deficient, you may notice you are fatigued, irritable, and have a
loss of appetite.
2. If you are vitamin C deficient, you may notice you are fatigued, irritable,
and have a loss of appetite.

CONCLUSION

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence → Action)

I. As a conclusion, vitamin C is very essential to our body in order to have a healthy
lifestyle. (summary of the main points)
II. We need to be concerned about the content of vitamin C in our body, so that
disease like scurvy can be prevented early.
III. It’s clear that vitamin C is very important for our body.
IV. So, preserving healthy foods today can guarantee the health of your body in the
future. It’s not too late for those who aware about the importance of vitamin C.
remember that “ an apple a day keeps the doctor away” (state/urge audience to
take action)
