Q. 3.
(1) The importance of field visit can be outlined with the help of the following points :
(1) Field visit helps in understanding various geographical concepts, elements and
processes through direct personal experiences.
(2) It helps in understanding the correlation between humans and environment.
(3) It helps in enhancing the understanding and sensitivity about the historical, economic,
social and cultural facts about the selected field.
(4) It makes the study of geography more interesting and supports the application of
knowledge.

(2) (1)
If the country has a vast longitudinal extents, there will be a great difference
between the time of its places located in the eastern and the western parts. In
such countries, the importance of Standard time is the most.

(3) (1)
In India, the coastal type of vegetation is found along the coast, the edges of
deltas, estuaries and swampy land, etc.
(2) In India, the coastal types of vegetation is mainly found along the western and the
eastern coastal areas.
(3) Mangrove and sundari trees are mainly found in these forests. Therefore, these
forests are also known as mangroves or sundarbans.
(4) The trees in mangroves or sundarbans have oily, durable and light wood.
Q. 4. (A)

Q. 5.
(1) (1) The items like notebook, pen, pencil, scale, camera, etc., are essential to collect
information during field visit.
(2) Containers or bags are required for collecting samples of water/soil/rocks/plants/
crops, etc.
(3) Questionnaires help in collecting information of a particular geographical concept/
element/process. Therefore, it is necessary to take items required for field visit
and the questionnaires along with us.

(2) (1) The winds blowing from the Southern Atlantic Ocean in the southeast and the
northeast direction are obstructed by the Brazilian Highlands.

(2)
These winds move upward along with the slopes of the Brazilian Highlands.
At higher altitude, the condensation process takes place and winward side of
Brazilian Highlands receives more rain.

(3) When these winds cross the top of Brazilian Highlands and go to other side of
the mountain, these winds are dry. As its effect, the leeward side of the Brazilian
Highlands gets less rainfall. Therefore, the northeastern part of Brazilian
Highlands receives very less rainfall.

(3) (1) Deciduous forests are found in the regions receiving rainfall between 1000 mm
and 2000 mm.
(2) In most of the regions of India, the amount of rainfall is between 1000 mm and
2000 mm.

(3) Trees in deciduous forests, shed their leaves to maintain the minimum level of
water. Thus, India has deciduous forests.

(4) (1) In India, the progress in agriculture, trade, commerce, industries, education is
increasing day-by-day.
(2) Due to these developments, many modern cities are emerging in country. Many
employment opportunities are generated in these cities.
(3)
People from various regions are settling down in these cities. As its effect,
urbanization is increasing rapidly in India.

Q. 6. (A) Line Graph :

(1) In the year 1991, the percentage of urban population in India was 25.7.
(2)
Percentage of urban population increased in decade 2001 to 2011 by
3.4 per cent.
(3) In the decade 1961 to 1971, the per cent growth in urban population was
the least.
OR
Q. 6. (B)
(1) The name of the graph is India : Age-sex Pyramid.
(2) The age group of 10 to 14 years has the maximum population.
(3) The class interval shown on the ‘Y’-axis is of 4 years.
(4) The ratio of females is more in 60 and above age group.
(5) The percentage of females in 55 to 59 age group is 2.
(6) From the age group of 10 to 14 years onwards the decline in the population
can be seen.
Q. 7.
(1)
The physiography of Brazil and India can be differentiated with the help of the
following points :
(1) The physiography of Brazil is divided into the Highlands, the Great Escarpment,
the Coastal region, the Plains and the Island groups. The physiography of India

is divided into the Himalayas, the North Indian Plains, the Peninsula, the Coastal
Plains and the Island groups.
(2) There are no high and long extending mountains in Brazil. On the other hand,
there are many high and long extending mountains in India.
(3) The Himalayas mountain range extends in the northern part of India. Similarly,
the mountainous region of Western Ghats is in the west and the mountainous
region of Eastern Ghats is in the east of the peninsular region of India.
(4) The highest range of altitude is 500 metres to 1000 metres in Brazil. On the
other hand, the highest range of altitude is 6000 metres to 8000 metres in India.
(5) The western part of the North Indian plains is occupied by desert. On the other
hand, no such hot desert area lies in Brazil.
(6)
Many wide plains are located in the north and in the coastal areas in India.
On the other hand, there are no wide plains in Brazil.
(7) At many places, there are regions of backwaters in India. On the other hand,
there are no such regions in Brazil.
(8)
The Great Escarpment is located in the northeast part of Brazil. This Great
Escarpment demarcates the eastern side of the Brazilian Highland. On the other
hand, no such escarpments are located in India.
(2) (1) Proximity to equator, Brazilian Highlands, the Great Escarpment are the main
factors affecting climate of Brazil.
(2) Due to proximity to equator, the temperatures in the northern part of Brazil is
comparatively higher. On the other hand, the temperatures in the southern part
of Brazil is comparatively lower.
(3) The average temperature in the Amazon river basin in the northern part near
equator is 25°C to 28°C. The overall climate in this region is found to be hot,
humid and unhealthy.
(4) The amount of annual average rainfall in Amazon river valley is nearly 2000 mm.
The amount of annual average rainfall is nearly 1000 mm to 1200 in the southeast
coastal region.
(5)
The temperature is comparatively low in the Brazilian highlands. Brazilian
highlands receives moderate amount of rainfall, i.e. nearly 600 mm to 1200 mm.
(6)
The great Escarpment and the Brazilian Highlands obstruct the trade winds
blowing from the southeast and the northeast directions. This leads to heavy
rainfall in the windward sides of the Great Escarpment, i.e. in the eastern coastal
region of Brazil.
(7) The winds blowing beyond the Highlands become dry and therefore it rains less
to the leeward side of the Great Escarpment and the Brazilian Highlands.
(8)
As its effect, the northeast part of Brazil receives the minimum rainfall. The
temperature is also found to be high in this region. This region is a rain shadow
region. It is known as ‘Drought Quadrilateral’.

level of development, etc. variety in human settlements is seen.
(3) In the river basins of Ganga, Narmada, Godavari, etc, nucleated settlements are
seen in India.
(4) On the other hand, in the hot and arid area of Thar desert, scattered human
