■ Question 1 of 1 [CO4]
Implement the following circuit in a breadboard. Use appropriate resistors. Set two dc voltages at 8 V and 5 V as
shown in the diagram. R2
a
1 kΩ
Ix
R1 2.2 kΩ
+
VS1 − 8V R3 3.3 kΩ
Rab
+
VS2 − 5V
R4 R5
b 4.7 kΩ 2.7 kΩ
(a) Measure (i) equivalent resistance Rab to the right side of the terminals a − b, (ii) the current Ix , and (iii) power
consumed by the resistor R2 . Record the values in Table 1.
[Hint: Remember that you cannot find Ix using Ohm’s law only. You may need to use other circuit laws as well.]
Table 1: Measured values for question (a).
(b) Take necessary measurements to obtain the I − V characteristics of the circuit to the right portion of the
terminals a − b. In the following grid, draw the I − V line. Mark and write the data points clearly on the plot.
[Hint: To plot I − V , you need to vary any voltage and measure current and voltage. Also, be careful of which
current versus which voltage is to be plotted.]

■ Question 1 of 1 [CO4]
Implement the following circuit in a breadboard. Use appropriate resistors. Connect two dc voltages set to 7 V and
4 V as shown in the diagram and power up the circuit.
R2
R1 3.3 kW
− +
4.7 kΩ V R2

+ +
VS1 − 7V VS2 − 4V R3 2.7 kΩ
(a) Perform necessary measurements and calculation to determine the current Ix through the 4 V voltage source as
shown in the circuit diagram. Record the value in Table 1.
[Hint: Remember that you cannot find Ix using Ohm’s law only. You may need to use other circuit laws as well.]

Ix (mA)
(b) Measure the voltage VR2 across the resistor R2 as shown in the circuit diagram and the power consumed by the
resistor R3 . Record the values in Table 2.
(c) (i) Now make appropriate changes to the circuit and verify the Principle of Superposition by measuring VR2
and comparing it to the value in Table 2.
(ii) By measuring the power of the resistor R3 in the same manner as (i), show that the Superposition Theorem
does not apply to powers.
