Date Section:
NAME: HARSH Student#:

Obiective
The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with the following:
1. Continue on the basic operations of the function generator and oscilloscope
Use a function generator as a low power, sinusoidal, ac power supply.
Use an oscilloscope to view and measure AC voltage and phase shift
2. Build &measure basic RC and RL AC circuits
3. Understand the RC circuit characteristics vs frequency and phasor diagrams
4. Understand the RL circuit characteristics vs frequency and phasor diagrams

Equipment
1. Your tool and component kits (see your CIS on FOL)
2. Your PPE (CSA approved safety glasses with sideshields)
3 Abreadboard, jumper wires and alligator leads
4. Your DMM (DigitalMulti-Meter)
5. A Dual Trace Oscilloscope, and a Function Generator
6. Resistors: 1000 Q (1),
7. Capacitor: 0.1 uF (1) (read as 104)
8. Inductor: 100 mH (1) (read as 104)

Lab Exercises

Exercise 1. RC Circuit Measurements

Procedures:
1. Build the RC circuit on the breadboard as shown in Fig.1
2. Set the function generator to produce a 2.0 kHz sinusoidal AC waveform
3. Connect function generator to the circuit as AC power supply
4. Use the oscilloscope CH1 for the AC power supply (Vs)
5. Use the oscilloscope CH2 for the resistorvoltage (V)
6. Use the "Cursor" Button to set/measure the following:
a
Set the source voltage (V) to be 5-Volt Peak to Peak by adjusting the furnction generator
output. Record the measurement in the table below.
b. Measure the capacitor voltage (V3) and record it in the table below.
C Measure the phase angle between V and Vs
d. Take photo or save
1) The circuit on the breadboard
2) The waveform of CH1 and CH2 @ 2KHz
7. Repeat the above procedures for other frequencies as listed in Table 1
