Course Description Introduces the different Collision Avoidance rules which a ship officer needs to know, understand, and comply with in order to :
maintain a safe navigational watch. Provides opportunities for strengthening students’ knowledge and understanding of variousCOLREGs rules and
annexes through different theoretical and practical exercises.

Course Outcomes A-I1/1. At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

: CO1: Use the appropriate rules of COLREGS to recommend a course of action that a vessel should take in order to
avoid a possible collision in a given navigational situation.

Course IntakeLimitations : The number of students that can be accommodated shall not exceed 40 for lecture and 20 for laboratory.
Faculty Requirement The faculty that will be assigned to handle the course must possess the following qualifications: - graduate of Bachelor of Science Marine
Transportation; - with at least 12 months of seagoing experience as Officer-in-charge of Navigation Watch on seagoingshipof500
GRT or more; - completed Training Course for Instructors (IMO Model Course 6.09); - completed Training Course on Assessment, Examination and
Certification of Seafarers (IMO Model Course 3.12);
and preferably with teaching experience.
