SECTION 2: (40 MARKS)
Question One
i. A farmer uses two harvesters to harvest wheat on his farm. One of the harvesters is a
Ferguson and the other is a Honda. It normally takes both harvesters to work together
3 hours and 20 minutes to complete the job. On one occasion both the harvesters
started working together, but after 40 minutes Ferguson broke down and Honda had
to complete the job alone. Given that it took Honda a further 4- hours to complete the
job, determine how long it would take each harvester working alone to complete the
job. (7 marks)
ii. Peter bought some articles at Kshs.3060 per dozen and sold them all making a profit
of 20% on the cost price. When selling these articles, he allowed his customers a
discount of 10% on the marked price of each article. Find the marked price of each
article. (3 marks)

Question Two
i. The radius of a spherical ball is measured as 7 cm, correct to the nearest centimeters.
Determine, to 2 decimal places, the percentage error in calculating the surface area of
the ball. (4 marks)
