Abstract
• Smart Home is the term commonly used to define a residence that uses a home
controller to integrate the residence's various home automation systems.
• The most popular home controllers are those that are connected to a Windows
based PC.
• In our research we presented a part of smart home technology which using
Bluetooth in a mobile device, so it will more easy and efficient to use .
• It also based on Android and Arduino platform both of which are free open source
software. In this paper, a system called door locks automation system using
Bluetooth-based Android Smartphone is proposed and prototyped.
• Design of a Bluetooth-based Smartphone application for lock/unlock the door are
presented.
• The hardware design for door-lock system is the combination of android smart phone
as the task master, Bluetooth module as command agent, Arduino microcontroller as
controller center / data processing center, and solenoid as door lock output.
• Keywords: Android, Arduino uno, Door automation, Bluetooth, Smart Phone.
INTRODUCTION

❖ Smart phone usually support one or more short range

wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and infrared,
making it possible to transfer data via these wireless
connections.
❖ Bluetooth technology operate over 2.4GHz frequency, it
also can link digital devices within a range of 10m to 100m
at the speed of up to 3Mbps but it depending on the
Bluetooth device class.
❖ Smart home automation is one of the applications of
Bluetooth technology.

Objectives
Fingerprint door lock systems reliable and non-intrusive, there is also no danger of leaving
your fingers at home or at office. Also, the fact that fingerprints are nearly always unique, makes
fingerprint door locking system perfect with regards to security. The biometric fingerprint sensor is
ideal to create a system capable of protecting what you require through the analysis of your
fingerprint. The device works with the serial protocol, so it can be used with any microcontroller
(arduino etc..) or development card. These issues can be fixed by using traditional locks but here a
possibility is may occurred of some unknown person will open the lock without breaking it by using
duplicate keys. Using these locks also make problems if we lost keys of lock and we have to carry
those keys with us. Again, using these patterns in the locks can improve security but again it can open
and cracked if somehow someone guesses the passwords or patterns are known. The pattern which
can or will used as key will be unique. Here, to implement this project successfully we will use
fingerprint as the key. This Arduino NANO project will make use of different devices to the
implementation of the advanced security lock where there are different features to maximize the
security levels. This simple fingerprint door unlock project using Arduino can be very useful for door
security, forensics, crime investigation, personal identification, attendance system and much more. In
the future, there could be many more applications like fingerprint based driving licences, bank
accounts operation and so on.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT

 Arduino IDE
 Processing application.

Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering www.cambridge.edu.in

Budget for project
• Arduino UNO R3 -1030rs
• Solenoid lock - 970rs
• Bluetooth module - 600rs
• Relay module - 500rs
• Connecting wires- 200rs
• 12volts supply - 700rs
WORKING PRINCIPLE
 The program that has been created and ready for instantly use.
 Program the Arduino microcontroller using IC ATMega328P-PU and
works by enteringing language for the Arduino microcontroller is C
language.
 Bluetooth module used in this circuit is the type of HC-05, which requires
a 3.3 V DC power drawn from the Arduino microcontroller circuit (pin 3.3
V).
 The mechanism of device is to input a digital keypad on the software on
android Smartphone first, if there is a command that is controlled by the
user, the data will be instantly sent via a Bluetooth network then the input
received by the Hc-05 Bluetooth module that connected to Arduino
microcontroller.
ADVANTAGES
 SECURITY: With smart door locking system, you can decide who
can enter your home at what time. It lowers the risk of anything get
stolen.
NO RISK OF MISPLACING: They eliminate the need to fumble and
search for your house keys.
COST EFFECTIVE: Though you would have to pay more upfront for
the fingerprint-based door lock, it is bound to last longer than your
regular lock and key, which is susceptible to rust, wear, and tear.
 USER-FRIENDLY: Even when you’re just at work or out and about,
this is the perfect way to keep track of when your kids arrive home
from school or if someone attempts to break in.
DISADVANTAGES
Smart locks can cost significantly more than standard lock-and-key
systems and you may need a pro to install the lock and sync it to your
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Sudden blackout of the control unit or a fault of the recognition
device. In both cases, the risk is that you cannot enter into your house
because the system is unable to authenticate you for accessing the
premises.
CONCLUSION

❖ This project based on Android and Arduino platform both of which are
Free Open Source Software.
❖ The implementation rate is inexpensive and it is reasonable by a common
person.
❖ Accomplishment of wireless Bluetooth connection in microcontroller
permits the system installation in more easy way.
❖ The system has been successfully designed and prototyped to control the
door condition using an Android Bluetooth-enabled phone and Bluetooth
modules via Bluetooth HC-05.
