Beehive
Beehive
Beehive dimensions from recommended yarn: height 14.5 cm, diameter 16 cm.

You will need:

Yarn: Yarn Art Jeans (55% cotton 45% acrylic, 160 m/50 g) light yellow 88*3, yellow 35*1,
mustard 84*1, black 53, white 62, light blue 75, brown 40 in small quantity.
Alize Baby Cotton (50% cotton 50% acrylic, 270m/100g) ivory 01, green 101, yellow 113 also
in small quantity. Some Yarn Art Bright 236 (golden metallic).
2.25 mm crochet hook (hook size may vary depending on your density). 1.75 mm hook for
metallic yarn.
Scissors, big eyed needle, lighter, steam iron, hot glue gun. Even if you prefer to sew on parts
rather than glue, hot glue is necessary here for the rigidity of the structure.
Synthetic fiberfill, 1 mm diameter fishing line, 4 mm small black beads or eyes (+ supeglue if
use flatback beads), small yellow button or bead.

Stitch key:
AR – Adjustable Ring
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
fpsc - front post single crochet
bpsc - back post single crochet
htr- half treble crochet
dc- double crochet
sl st –slip stitch
inc – increase
dec – decrease
( )*n – repeat combination in brackets n times
Start crocheting honeycombs with yellow yarn.
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. (2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc
5. (3 sc, inc)*6=30 sc.
Crochet one more sc and finish with a sl st,
cut the yarn.

Make 7 pieces. For variety, I used different shades of

yellow. But then, during assembly, it turned out that
it was better to make them in the same color -
bright yellow.

Sew to each other through back loops of the last

round.

It should look like this figure.

Join yarn to the front loops of the central detail and
sc around.

Sc 10 spiral rounds up, finish with a sl st,

cut the yarn.

Crochet walls for other 6 combs in the same way.

Begin to glue the walls of the cells together.

First glue all the outer honeycombs to the central
cell. Try to carefully apply the glue on small areas
and press firmly.
Then glue the outer cells together.
They touch each other on one side.

Next, crochet the outer layer of honeycombs. Chain

11 and work back and forth rows with a turning ch at
the beginning of each row.
1-5. 5 rows of 10 sc
6. 9 fpsc, 1 sc. A fpsc is crocheted in this way: the
hook is not inserted under the upper loops of the
sc of previous row as usual, but in front under the
post (vertical section of the sc stitch) .

As a result, a convex rib appears on the front side.

7-11. 5 rows of 10 sc
12. 9 fpsc, 1 sc.

13-17. 5 rows of 10 sc

18. Now crochet 1 row of bpsc.

To do this, the hook is also inserted under the post,
but from the wrong side.

The result is a fold to the other side.

Сontinue to crochet in the same way, repeating
from 1 to 18 rows 5 more times. You should get a
long piece of 18 sections.

Begin to glue the outer layer to the honeycombs,

neatly 1 section at a time.

Thanks to the glue, a strong and rigid construction

is obtained.
Now sew all th edges with a needle.
At that moment, I realized that it is better to make
all the honeycombs in one color, otherwise the seam
is visible on other shades.

Now crochet the base of the hive with mustard yarn.

Use a marker thread in a contrasting color for easy
rounds counting.
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc)*5, 1 sc=24 sc
5. (3 sc, inc)*6=30 sc
6. 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc)*5, 2 sc=36 sc
7. (5 sc, inc)*6=42 sc.
8. 3 sc, inc, (6 sc, inc)*5, 3 sc=48 sc
9. (7 sc, inc)*6=54 sc
10. 4 sc, inc, (8 sc, inc)*5, 4 sc=60 sc

11. (9 sc, inc)*6=66 sc

12. 5 sc, inc, (10 sc, inc)*5, 5 sc=72 sc
13. (11 sc, inc)*6=78 sc
14. 6 sc, inc, (12 sc, inc)*5, 6 sc=84 sc
15. (13 sc, inc)*6=90 sc
16. 7 sc, inc, (14 sc, inc)*5, 7 sc=96 sc
17. (15 sc, inc)*6=102 sc
18. 8 sc, inc, (16 sc, inc)*5, 8 sc=108 sc
19. (17 sc, inc)*6=114 sc
20. 9 sc, inc, (18 sc, inc)*5, 9 sc=120 sc
21-24. 4 rounds of 120 sc

25. 9 sc, dec, (18 sc, dec)*5, 9 sc=114 sc

26. (17 sc, dec)*6=108 sc
27. 8 sc, dec, (16 sc, dec)*5, 8 sc=102 sc
28. (15 sc, dec)*6=96 sc
29. 7 sc, dec, (14 sc, dec)*5, 7 sc=90 sc
30. (13 sc, dec)*6=84 sc
31. 6 sc, dec, (12 sc, dec)*5, 6 sc=78 sc.
Stuff not too tight in the process of crocheting,
keeping a flat shape.

32. (11 sc, dec)*6=72 sc

33. 5 sc, dec, (10 sc, dec)*5, 5 sc=66 sc
34. (9 sc, dec)*6=60 sc
35. 4 sc, dec, (8 sc, dec)*5, 4 sc=54 sc
36. (7 sc, dec)*6=48 sc
37. 3 sc, dec, (6 sc, dec)*5, 3 sc=42 sc
38. (5 sc, dec)*6=36 sc
39. 2 sc, dec, (4 sc, dec)*5, 2 sc=30 sc
40. (3 sc, dec)*6=24 sc
41. 1 sc, dec, (2 sc, dec)*5, 1 sc=18 sc
42. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc
43. Dec every st until the hole closes, leave a long
end.
Thread the needle and sew a few stitches through
the center. Do not tighten, just fix a flat shape.

Steam well with an iron to get a flat and even

round pillow.

Glue the honeycombs to the base. First glue the

central one, then the outer ones one at a time.

Additionally, sew all the corners through

the base.
Now crochet a dome with fishing line. First, burn
the tip of the fishing line with a lighter so that a
ball forms at the end. It will not let the fishing line
slip out of crocheting.

Crochet with light yellow yarn:

1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc. From the second round apply a fishing
line and crochet so that the fishing line lays under the
stitches.

3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. (2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc
5. (3 sc, inc)*6=30 sc
6. (4 sc, inc)*6=36 sc

By the way, here's a hint for you on how to fix the

skein of fishing line so that it doesn't get tangled.
And at the same time it was easy to release a few
turns.
The shape of the detail will depend on the tension
of the fishing line. At the end of each row, tighten the
fishing line a little so that you get the shape of a dome,
and not a flat circle.
7. (5 sc, inc)*6=42 sc
8. (6 sc, inc)*6=48 sc
9. (7 sc, inc)*6=54 sc
10. (8 sc, inc)*6=60 sc
11. (9 sc, inc)*6=66 sc
12. (10 sc, inc)*6=72 sc
13. (11 sc, inc)*6=78 sc

14. (12 sc, inc)*6=84 sc

15. (13 sc, inc)*6=90 sc
16. (14 sc, inc)*6=96 sc
17. (15 sc, inc)*6=102 sc
18. (16 sc, inc)*6=108 сs
19. (17 sc, inc)*6=114 sc
20. (18 sc, inc)*6=120 sc

21-31. 11 rounds of 120 sc.

Cut the fishing line, leave a short end.

Gently burn the end of the fishing line and quickly

press it to the crocheting. The melted fishing line
will stick to the yarn. Crochet a few more sc to close
the line and complete with a sl st, cut the yarn.
Now crochet the outer part of the hive with
light yellow yarn:
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc

Then sc spiral rounds without inc, stuffing while

crocheting.

Stuff loosely so that the tube has a flattened

shape.
Crochet about 1 meter and start gluing the tube to
the base of the hive from the bottom up in a spiral.
Apply glue on small areas, about 3 cm each, since
the glue quickly hardens.

Continue to crochet in height, gradually gluing

a turn by turn.

Stuff tighter when come closer to the top, since the

flat tube will not lie well on the top of the dome.

Crochet and glue until there is a small free area left

at the top. Finish like this: (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc, and
in the last round, decrease every st until the hole
closes.
Crochet a ball to close the top:
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. (2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc
5. (3 sc, inc)*6=30 sc.
Try on an open area - you may need to crochet a
circle larger or smaller.

6-9. 4 rounds of 30 sc. Stuff in the process.

10. (3 sc, dec)*6=24 sc
11. (2 sc, dec)*6=18 sc
12. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc
13. dec*6

Glue the ball on the top.

So we get such a hive.

Crochet door with brown yarn.
Chain 10.
1. 8 sc, 4 sc in the last ch, 8 sc along the bottom side
of the chain. Then crochet back and forth rows.

2. 8 sc, inc*4, 8 sc=24 sc

3. 8 sc, (1 sc, inc)*4, 8 sc=28 sc
3. 8 sc, (2 sc, inc)*4, 8 sc=32 sc
4. 8 sc, (3 sc, inc)*4, 8 sc=36 sc
5. 8 sc, (4 sc, inc)*4, 8 sc=40 sc

6. 40 sc through back loops

7-9. 3 rounds of 40 sc through both loops.

Leave a long end.
Bend the sides back and sew the edge of the 9th row
to the front loops of the 5th row.

Sew a button or a bead as a doorknob.

Crochet windows with light blue yarn.

1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc.
Finish with a sl st, cut the yarn.

4. Join mustard yarn and sl st around.

5. Crochet inserting the hook into the sl st:
(2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc
6. Sl st one more round. Leave a long end.

Embroider the inner cross frame with

the end of the yarn.

Glue the door and 5 windows. You can make as many

windows as you desire.
Let’s add some flowers. Start crocheting with yellow
yarn: 6 sc in AR, finish with a sl st, cut the yarn.

Join white yarn: (2 ch, 2 dc in 1 st, 2 ch, sl st) in the

same st.

Crochet 5 more petals in the same way.

Crochet leaves with green yarn: chain 10, 1 sl st,

1 sc, 1 htr, 3 dc, 1 htr, 1 sc, 1 sl st.
Immediately, without breaking the thread, crochet
the second leaf in the same way. Cut the thread.

Decorate the hive with flowers: first glue the leaves,

then the flower on them. The quantity can be any,
I got 6. Attach the flowers to the places that you want
to disguise. For example, the place at the top where
the spiral tube ends. Places where there are cracks
between the tubes or where it looks empty without
windows.

Crochet bees. Start with yellow yarn:

1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4-6. 3 rounds of 18 sc
7. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc.
Stuff in process.
8. dec*6=6 sc
Join black yarn:
9. inc*6=12 sc
10. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
Change to yellow yarn:
11-12. 18 sc

Change to black yarn:

13. 18 sc
14. (4 sc, dec)*3=15 sc
Change to yellow yarn:
15. (3 sc, dec)*3=12 sc
16. (2 sc, dec)*3=9 sc

Change to black yarn:

17. (1 sc, dec)*3=6 sc. Cut the yellow yarn.
18. dec*3. Cut the yarn and fix the end.

Crochet cap with black yarn:

1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. (2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc
5-6. 24 sc
Bee antennae (2 pcs): 5 ch, 1 sc, 3 sl st.
Leave a long end.

Thread the long end of the yarn into the needle

and sew the antennae to the cap not exactly at
the crown, but a little closer to the edge so that
they look forward.

Sew or glue the cap on the head so that the places

of yarn color changing on the body are on the back.

Legs (4 pcs): 5 ch, 4 sl st, leave a long end.

Sew the legs to the body a little closer to the
tummy than to the back.

Glue or sew the eyes.

Embroider nose - just a few stitches at one place.

Crochet wings with white yarn (2 pcs):

7 ch, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 htr, 2 dc, 8 dc in the last ch.
Along the bottom side of the chain:
2 dc, 1 htr, 1 sc, 1 sl st.
Leave a long end.

Sew wings on the back.

In total, you need to crochet 3 bees and make one

of them a queen. Crochet crown with golden yarn,
1.75 mm hook.
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. 12 sc through the back loops
4. (2 ch, sl st) in every st

Glue the crown on the head.

Collar: chain 15+3.
Crochet 3 dc in every st, leave a long end.

Put the collar on the neck, sew with the end of the
yarn.

Let’s crochet the pupa bees in the form of babies,

in fact, these are bee babies. Start with yellow yarn:
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4-6. 3 rounds of 18 sc
7. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc
Stuff while crocheting.
8. dec*6=6 sc

Change yarn to ivory:

9. inc*6=12 sc
10. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
11-15. 5 rounds of 18 sc
16. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc
17. dec every st until the hole closes, fix the end.
Glue or sew the eyes.

Crochet bonnet with ivory yarn:

1. 6 ch, 4 sc, 3 sc in the last ch, 4 sc along the bottom
side of the chain=11 sc. Then crochet back and forth
rows with turning ch.

2. 4 sc, 3 inc, 4 sc=14 sc

3. 4 sc, (1 sc, inc)*3, 4 sc=17 sc

4. crochet through the back loops

without inc 17 sc
5-7. 3 rows of 17 sc.

8. (2 ch, 1 sl st) in every st through the back loops.

Leave a long end.

Join yarn to the front loops of the 3d row:

(2 ch, 1 sl st) in every st.
Put the bonnet to the pupa head and stitch
around the neck with the end of the yarn.

Bee family all together.

What is a hive without honey? Let’s crochet a pot of

honey from Alize Baby Cotton 113 (I specially use
yarn of a different shade so that everything does not
merge into one tone with honeycombs).
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc. Finish with a sl st, cut the yarn.
Put aside.
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc
3. (1 sc, inc)*6=18 sc
4. (2 sc, inc)*6=24 sc

Glue the small circle right in the center.

5-9. 5 rounds of 24 sc

10. (2 sc, dec)*6=18 sc

11. (1 sc, dec)*6=12 sc
12. 12 sc. Finish with a sl st, cut the yarn, stuff.
Crochet lid with white yarn:
1. 6 sc in AR
2. inc*6=12 sc, finish with a sl st.

3. 12 sc through the back loops.

4. (2 ch, 1 sl st) in every st, leave a
long end.

Put the lid on the pot and sew with the end of the
yarn.
Now all the honeycombs are filled: queen bee, 2
worker bees, 2 pupa bees and 2 honey pots.

Our beehive is ready!
