GENERAL INTRODUCTION.
All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the
man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
(2 Tim. 3:16-17)
With the above scripture, you will agree with me that both
testaments are of a great importance to our calling as a
minister of God's word...... Hence it's rong to give a disdainful
interpretation of any testament account.
Before we engage the new testament, we should endeavor to
understand the dispensations from Old to New testament,
which are CONSCIENCE, LAW & GRACE.

PERIOD BETWEEN TESTAMENTS:

Between Malachi and Matthew, four hundred (400)years
passed in the Holy Land for which we have no prophetic record.
Much happened during this period that affects our
understanding of the New Testament, so it is important to be
familiar with at least the major events that occurred in this
intertestamental period. After the Babylonian captivity Judea
was ruled in turn by the Persians, the Greeks, the Egyptians, the
Syrians, and the Romans, with a brief period of self-rule under
the Hasmoneans. The Old Testament was translated into a
Greek version called the Septuagint, which is the version most
often quoted in the New Testament. Also, this period saw the
rise of the Pharisees and Sadducees and an increase in the
influence of the scribes.
OLD TESTAMENT WORLD {•••Intertestamental period; Silent
period or Dark age period•••} NEW TESTAMENT WORLD
• DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL REGIONS
• DIFFERENT LANGUAGES
• DIFFERENT NATIONAL INVADERS
• DIFFERENT TYPES OF LITERATURE

THE MAIN POINT OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IS THAT YAHWEH IS

LORD
THE MAIN POINT OF THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THAT JESUS IS
LORD

CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF THE NEW TESTAMENT:

This is the arrangement of events in the order of their
happening or based on the time they have occurred. Years and
dates are some of the signifiers used in chronological order.
While it is impossible to say with 100% accuracy the exact
chronological order of the New Testament, the following list is
fairy accurate and will serve as a reasonable list to study from.

James – 50 A.D.
First Thessalonians – 52-53.
Second Thessalonians – 52-53.
Galatians – 55.
First Corinthians – 57.
Second Corinthians – 57.
Romans – 57-58.
Philippians – 62-63.
Colossians – 62-63.
Philemon – 62-63.
Ephesians – 62-63.
Luke – 63.
Acts – 64.
First Timothy – 65.
Titus – 65.
Second Timothy – 66.
Mark – 66.
Matthew – 67.
Hebrews – 67.
First Peter – 67-68.
Second Peter – 68.
Jude – 68.
Apocalypse (revelations)- 68.
John – 85.
Epistles (Letters) of John – 90-95

So why is the chronological order of the New Testament (or Old

Testament) important? Knowing the order of the books allows
us to:

See progress of the story of the early church

Connect what was being written with historical events
See a line of thought or progression of thought (e.g. multiple
letters written to the same churches)
Catch a sense of the history of the Bible
Understand some of the biases or thoughts affecting the
writers of the books and what they may be writing about or
against

FOUR DIFFERENT DIVISIONS

1, THE HISTORICAL BOOKS
2, THE CHURCH EPISTLES
3, THE PASTORAL EPISTLES
4, THE GENERAL EPISTLES
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH & THE
REFORMED CHURCH
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH:
1, only the church holds authority for determining the correct
meaning of scripture
2, Has historically discouraged individual bible study

THE REFORMED CHURCH

1, Scripture interprets scripture
2, Was based upon individual Bible study

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HERMENEUTICS:

1, SCRIPTURE INTERPRETS SCRIPTURE
2, THE LITERARY GENRE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED
3, CONTEXT IS KEY.
a, IMMEDIATE CONTEXT
b, CONTEXT WITHIN THE BOOK
c, CONTEXT WITHIN THE ENTIRE BIBLE
d, HISTORICAL CONTEXT

The Book of the new testament is grouped in two parts:

(HISTORICAL BOOK & EPISTLES)
THE HISTORICAL BOOKS:
MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE, JOHN, THE BOOK OF ACTS

THE EPISTLES
THE CHURCH EPISTLES:
ROMANS, I CORINTHIANS, II CORINTHIANS, GALATIANS,
EPHESIANS, PHILIPPIANS, COLOSSIANS, I THESSALONIANS, II

SYNOPTIC GOSPELS: Matthew, Mark & Luke "... These books

view the life of Jesus Christ from a common perspective."

How each Gospels viewed Jesus Christ:

MATTHEW: ...... Jesus As The King Of The Jews.
MARK: ...... Jesus as the son who came to serve.
LUKE: ....... Jesus as the perfect teacher.
JOHN: ....... Jesus As The Son Of God. ....... In the beginning was
the word the word with God the word was God. (John 1:1)

THE GOSPELS: ......The Life Of Christ

• The Gospels Concentrate Almost Totally On The Three Years

Of The Ministry Of Jesus Christ. Yet Even at That, The Attention
Is Focused On The Person Of Jesus And His Teachings.
• All Four Gospels Climax With Jesus' Death And Resurrection
Along With The Events Associated With Them.
ALL FOUR GOSPEL ACCOUNTS BEGIN WITH A STATEMENT OF
THE TRUE IDENTITY OF JESUS CHRIST
MATTHEW: ...... The Record Of The Genealogy Of Jesus The
Messiah, The Son Of David, The Son Of ABRAHAM (Matthew
1:1)
MARK: ...... The Beginning Of The Gospel Of Jesus Christ, The
Son Of God, (Mark 1:1)
LUKE: ......The Holy Child Shall Be Called The Son Of God (Luke
1:35)
JOHN: ....... In the beginning was the word the word with God
the word was God. (John 1:1)

HOW DOES EACH GOSPEL END?

• MATTHEW: .... Concludes With The Resurrection (Matthew
28:1-6)

• MARK: .. Concludes With The Ascension.(Mark 16:14-20)

• LUKE: Concludes With The Promise Of The Holy Spirit. (luke

24:36-49)... "This Sets The Stage For Luke Vol. 2....the Book Of
Acts".
• JOHN: Ends With The Promise Of The Return Of Christ-setting
The Stage For...the Book Of Revelation.
There are four things in particular that are left from the old
testament that have not been fully accomplished yet:

1. UNEXPLAINED CEREMONIES
2. UNACHIEVED PURPOSES
3. UNAPPEASED LONGINGS
4. UNFULFILLED PROPHECIES
