    NARRATIVE REPORT
    Catch Up Friday
    February 23,2024

    To address learning gaps among grade school and high school


    students, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday, January 12,
    began its “Catch-up Fridays” program, which dedicates every Friday of the
    whole school year to reading, values, peace, and health education.
    In line with the implementation of Catch-Up Fridays which
    is one of the programs of the Department of Education
    designed to address students’ learning needs, DepEd CLSU Elem.
    (Lab.) School took another step in the conduct of said activity where
    teachers made efforts in having their classes be immersed in
    creative learning through reading. Before the day of the
    conduct of said activity, teachers planned and prepared the
    materials to be used in their classes. Some searched their collection of
    materials while some opted to browse the internet and printed the stories
    for the students to have during the day. Each grade level was given
    a story to read, with an integration into the subject that the
    facilitator is handling during the time the activity was
    conducted. As the materials were distributed, learners demonstrated
    eagerness to know the story they were going to read and even asked
    some questions related to it. Facilitators willingly entertained queries
    and gave some inputs for enlightenment.
    Therefore, Catch-up Fridays provide holistic opportunities among
    learners who were already attending school to make up for lost time
    inside the classroom instructions. As they are exposed to varied materials,
    they will be able to enhance their reading skills thoroughly.
