BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Zone 4 Del Rosario, Naga City, is a crowded community with homes close together
and poor sanitation is a big problem because of nearby canals with still water. These
canals collect rainwater, waste, and other debris that can be a breeding grounds for
mosquitoes. This greatly increases the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria. The
cramped housing, lack of proper drainage, and limited sanitation facilities all contribute
to an environment where the disease spreads easily.

Children under 5 years old, pregnant women, and young adults in this community
are particularly vulnerable to malaria. Their immune systems are generally weaker, or
they have increased susceptibility to infections. Despite previous efforts to address
health issues, there is still not enough awareness in the area about how malaria is
transmitted and how to prevent it.

Most people in this community cannot afford regular check-ups and may not have
easy access to malaria testing and treatment. This lack of access increases the spread
of malaria and worsens the health conditions of those infected. The community’s limited
resources and healthcare infrastructure make it difficult to manage and control the
disease effectively.

This project aims to implement targeted interventions such as education,

distribution of malaria prevention tools, and improved access to healthcare. By
educating the community about malaria transmission and prevention, we can reduce
the incidence of the disease. Providing prevention tools like mosquito nets and
repellents, along with better access to healthcare, will help protect the most vulnerable
groups.
OBJECTIVES

1. Increase Awareness to educate the community about malaria transmission,

prevention strategies, and the importance of early treatment.

2. Improve the Environment and organize community clean-up drives to eliminate

stagnant water and waste, and collaborate with local authorities to improve drainage
systems, reducing mosquito breeding grounds.

3. To improve the use of malaria prevention tools among community members by

teaching at least 1 member of households in the proper use of insecticide-treated bed
nets and mosquito repellents.

METHODOLOGY

This project will use a simple, community-focused approach to help the people of Zone
4 Del Rosario, Naga City, combat malaria. The methodology aims to achieve three main
goals: raising awareness about malaria, improving the environment to reduce mosquito
breeding sites, and promoting the use of malaria prevention tools. Led by student
nurses, this plan combines education, community clean-up efforts, and hands-on
training to ensure that everyone is involved in creating a healthier, malaria-free
community.

To effectively address malaria in the impoverished community of Zone 4 Del Rosario, we

will implement the following strategies:

1. Community Awareness: Conduct workshops focused on malaria transmission

and prevention methods, lasting approximately one hour with up to 30
participants each.
2. Environmental Clean-Up: Organize monthly events to clear stagnant water
and waste in the community, encouraging participation from local residents and
organizations.
3. Distribution of Prevention Tools: Distribute insecticide-treated bed nets and
other mosquito prevention tools to families in need. This will help protect the
most vulnerable groups, such as children under five and pregnant women, from
mosquito bites and reduce the risk of malaria transmission.
4. Evaluation: Utilize surveys and health data to evaluate project effectiveness
and make necessary adjustments.
