ABSTRACT

Field Work Practices (PKL) are a form of organizing education and


training activities by working directly, systematically and in a directed
manner with competent supervision. PKL is carried out to meet the needs
of professional workers and it is hoped that the knowledge gained will be
applied and can be put into practice by PKL participants in the world of
work.
Medan State University, or abbreviated as Unimed, is a state
university which was founded on June 23 1963 in Medan, North Sumatra.
The beginning of the founding of Medan State University was in 1956, when
the Teacher Education College (PTPG) was opened by several educational
figures in North Sumatra. PTPG was opened to meet the need for qualified
educational personnel in North Sumatra after the rapid growth of junior
high schools (SMP) and senior high schools (SMA). The idea of establishing
PTPG was supported by three high-ranking officials, namely the Dean of the
Faculty of Law and Public Knowledge, University of North Sumatra (USU),
Prof. Ani Abbas Manopo, SH.; Head of Community Education Inspection, G.
Sianipar; as well as the Director of SMA Negeri 1 Medan, R.M. Simanjuntak.
The Department of Office Management Automation (OTKP) is one of
the Skill Competencies in the Business and Management Expertise Field.
The OTKP major will equip students with abilities in the administrative field,
both in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes in completing company or
office work. Technically, the OTKP Vocational School will study all types of
office activities. Starting from bookkeeping, archiving, to public relations by
utilizing information technology skills. This expertise competency will
produce skilled, personable, professional, characterful and cultured
personnel to meet the needs of administrative personnel to compete in the
global era.
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND
A. Industrial work practice (PRAKERIN) is a program to bring
the school world closer to the business world which is a
characteristic of vocational high schools (SMK). This field work
practice must be undertaken by every student because it is
good and useful as preparation for entering the business world
after graduating from school.
With the industrial work practice program, students are
expected to be able to understand developments in the
business world that are relevant to learning. Knowledge,
understanding and experience about the business world
obtained directly through work practices opens up much
more real insights for students. So that later students
can combine it with the knowledge they have gained at
school. It is also hoped that internships will be able to
open and improve close cooperative relations between
educational institutions and industry.

1.2 Objectives

becomes more appropriate
With the needs of the world of work.
3. Perfecting student competencies through industrial
work practices and at the same time realizing competency-
based training programs.
4. Providing students with work experience.
5. Strengthen students’ skills that have been obtained at
school through direct practice in the world of work.

B. The implementation of an education system that is linked and


compatible between schools as formal human resource
producing institutions for the business/industrial world as
users of human resources.

B. THE PURPOSE OF REPORT FACULTY OF ENGINEERING


1. Why is the reason for doing field work practice?
PKL is an activity carried out by students to gain work
experience before entering the real world of work. The
purpose of implementing PKL is reflected in the national
education goals which aim to increase intelligence,
creativity and skills in order to grow people who can
develop themselves and be responsible for the
development of the nation and state in improving the
economy and a prosperous life. The objectives of
implementing street vendors include:

1.To introduce students to the world of business and


industry (DU-DI).
2. Develop and improve the professional attitudes
needed by students to enter the world of work and
business.
3. To develop a positive work ethic in students as
prospective workers.
4. Increasing students’ creativity and productivity as
preparation for facing or entering the real world of work
and business.
5. Expand students’ insight and views on the types of
work in the place where students carry out PKL

2. Why do we do practical field work in that place??


We chose field work practice at Medan State University
because the place is close to home, comfortable, there
is no lack of public transportation, easy to find the place.
CHAPTER 2
DISCUSSION

I. THEORY ABOUT MEDAN STATEUNIVERSITY


Medan State University is one of the leading state campuses in North
Sumatra. This is proven by several achievements achieved by
Unimed, both institutionally and by student representatives. In 2021,
Unimed received the 2021 Diktiristek award in the Integrated
Services (ULT) category as Best III and the Best Magazine III category
at the 2021 Diktiristek Award Activity which was organized by the
Directorate General of Diktristek, Ministry of Education and Culture
of the Republic of Indonesia.

Still in the same year, Unimed student representatives also achieved


several achievements in various events, both national and
international, including: 3rd place in the Indonesian Student
Entrepreneurship (KMI) Expo XII 2021 Industrial category, 1st place in
the infographic competition at the event Economic Development Fair
3.0 held by the Department of Economics, Sriwijaya University, 2nd
Place in Taekwondo Class Poomsea (Jurus) under 30 at the 2021
World Changmookwan Championship held in South Korea, and many
more.

UNIMED is a state university that has received University


Accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Higher
Education (BAN-PT) No.1067/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/PT/XII/2021 with an
Accreditation rating of A (Very Good).

II. IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURE THEORY


At the Faculty of Engineering, Medan State University (UNIMED).
While carrying out PKL activities at the Faculty of Engineering, Medan
State University (UNIMED), the author was placed in the
Administration section of the Electrical Engineering Education
Department (PTE).
The Administration section handles things related to legalizing,
making Research Permit letters, Observation letters, Validation
letters, Book Donation letters and Instrument Permit letters, creating
letter numbers, archiving letters, this is done every day.
And while doing PKL at the Faculty of Engineering, Medan State
University (UNIMED), the author carried out tasks in the
Administration section including the following:

1. Compile Open Library


2. Letter Stamp
3. Library Book Stamp
4. Agenda of Incoming and Outgoing Mail Numbers
5. Archive Incoming and Outgoing Mail

CONCLUSION AND RECOMANDATION

1) FIELD WORK PRACTICE IMPLEMENTATION TIME


Field Work Practices will be held from 6 May 2024 to 6 August 2024,
Field Work Practices start at 7 am to 4 pm starting Monday to Friday
for 3 months.

2) WHAT DO WE GET FROM THE FIELD WORK PRACTICE


Benefits of street vendors

A. Encourage students to learn and know how to become experts


who are ready to use in the world of work.
B. Develop a sense of responsibility, professionalism and discipline
which is very necessary when entering the world of work.
C. Increase students’ insight and knowledge so that they can
increase their potential to become quality employees.
D. So that students know what the real situation is in the world of
work.
E. So that students can do work effectively and efficiently

3) ANY DIFFICULTIES EXPERIENCED DURING FIELDWORK PRACTICE


•Adapt to new environments

•Operating applications or work facilities

•Discrepancy between the fields and the data available at the PKL
location

•The work given is not as expected

•Too many assessment forms that must be filled out


•Communication barriers between supervisors

•Distance from residence to street vendors

4) CONCLUSION
After we did Field Work Practice (PKL) at Medan State University
(UNIMED). We have gained a lot of benefits, both experience,
knowledge and everything related to the world of work. So we can
increase the insight we have gained so far, because only by practicing
can we find out how much ability we have gained at school. So that
one day, if we enter the world of work, we will not hesitate to do it,
because we already have good experience.

5) RECOMENDATION
1. For schools, it is hoped that the next PKL activity can be carried
out optimally by providing provisions for students who will take
part in PKL activities in the form of teaching basic materials
about industry. The goal is that students do not feel confuse
2. The street vendor recommends that female students should
improve their ten-finger typing skills, because when they were
in the street they were lacking in ten-finger typing.
3. The street vendor also recommends that students should learn
more about using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
4. Pakl places also recommend that teachers teach their
students archival activities, because this is something that is
very important for office departments.
