Unit Learning Outcomes

LO1: Explain the different types, size and scope of organisations

LO2: Demonstrate the interrelationship of the various functions within an organisation and how
they link to organisational structure

Vocational Scenario

Organization
Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock Bank (TPBank) was established in May 2008. Its main shareholders
are Doji Gold & Gems group, FPT group, Vietnam National Reinsurance Corporation, SBI Ven Holding
Pte. Ltd (Singapore), IFC International Finance Company (under World Bank), and PYN Elite Fund.
It can be seen that after the crisis caused by Covid-19, the economic development was negatively
affected. The GDP of Vietnam was forecasted to increase 6.3% - lower than Vietnam’s objective for
2023 (WTO, 2023). Despite the challenges of Vietnam and in the world, TPBank has been developed
from a bank that can be “sell-off” in 2000s, now it has become the top 10 Strongest banks in Vietnam
(the Asian Bankers).
Among 49 banks of Vietnam, TPBank is impressed by its efforts of applying technology and AI. It is
considered the most modern banking, affirming its position as the “No.1 Digital Bank in Vietnam” (The
Asian Bankers in 2020 and in 2023). Some of the most innovative services and products of TPBank are:
- ATM/ Visa/ Master card: avoid skimming and contactless;
- LiveBank: 24/7 banking that you may use QR code and finger print to withdraw money;
- Savy: saving online;
- QuickPay: QR code paying;
- mPOS: synchronized with mobile phones, contactless payment;
- CRM: considered the best CRM in Vietnam (the Asian Bankers);
- Call Centre: that recognize customers by their voice.

Assignment activity and guidance

You are required to conduct an analysis on several sample banks in Vietnam. You will present your
analysis to your line manager and to the management team.
You will present this industry analysis as a portfolio of ‘insights’ factsheets, to include:
1. Short introductions about the chosen banks;

2
2. Explanation of each of the chosen banks, including 1) the legal forms; their visions, missions,
goals and/ or objectives, core values; 2) the size and scope of the organisations.
3. Apply the stakeholders mapping to analyse the interests and conflicts of stakeholders; give
some suggestions of how organisations can meet different stakeholders’ expectations.
For business modelling purposes, you will also need to examine the various business functions in one
organisation and create an organisational chart to explore the interrelationships between the different
functions.
4. An analysis for TPBank, using visual mapping to show how internal departments, for example.
finance, marketing, work together to meet business objectives and how interrelationships are
defined by the structure of the organisation.
4. Conclusions based on critical impact analysis of different business structures and the
interrelationships between internal departments in successfully fulfilling overall business
objectives.
Hints:
 Choose two banks that differ from TPBank in legal forms
 Use stakeholders mapping to compare the purposes of the company and its competitors
 Analyse advantages and disadvantages of the organisational structure
 You are required to submit a report form
