Geometry: Angles and Shapes

Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with shapes, sizes, and the properties of space.

An angle is formed when two lines meet at a point. Shapes like triangles, squares, and circles are

the basic building blocks of geometry.

### Key Concepts:

- Acute angles are less than 90 degrees, right angles are exactly 90 degrees, and obtuse angles are

greater than 90 degrees.

- The sum of angles in a triangle is always 180 degrees.

- A square has four equal sides and four right angles.

### Solved Examples:

1. Find the third angle of a triangle if two angles are 40° and 70°:

Sum of angles = 180°, so third angle = 180° - 40° - 70° = 70°

2. Calculate the perimeter of a square with side length 5 cm:

Perimeter = 4 * side = 4 * 5 = 20 cm

3. Find the area of a circle with radius 3 cm:

Area = pi * r² = 3.14 * 3² = 28.26 cm²

4. Calculate the angle in a straight line if one angle is 120°:

Straight line = 180°, so missing angle = 180° - 120° = 60°

5. Find the circumference of a circle with radius 4 cm:

Circumference = 2 * pi * r = 2 * 3.14 * 4 = 25.12 cm

### Real-World Applications:

- Architects use geometry to design buildings and ensure structures are safe and stable.

- In sports, angles are important in aiming a basketball shot or hitting a soccer ball accurately.

- Geometry is used in navigation to calculate distances and angles between locations.
