Elite Vs Cibes
Elite Vs Cibes
Mr. XXX,
Cibes is a good company, they are from Sweden and they make screw driven platforms. But, my
question to you is, are you looking for a platform lift or a home elevator ?
Before I will talk to you about the screw driven technology and difference between platform and home
elevator, I want you to understand, we at TK Access also have screw driven platforms called E100,
however we do not recommend or sell them in INDIA.
First, Let me explain what’s platform is and how it’s different from a normal elevator.
Platform lifts are nothing but just a platform with no side protection or safety walls. It does not
even have a ceiling. All you get is just a flooring and half height wall with controls on one side, that’s it.
It’s very similar to a goods lift used in the late 60’s or 70’s, in fact even modern goods lifts don’t come
on the platform anymore.
These types of platforms are used mostly to climb just 3 to 6 steps and everybody knows that these
platforms are made for disabled and wheelchair usage only. If you have any friends in Europe I
suggest you ask them about these platform lifts. In fact in Europe there is a special training for
disabled and wheelchair users, just on how to use these platform lifts safely.
These platform lifts don’t come with any side safety walls, and it’s mandatory as per European norms
to have Hold to Run Controls only. Which means, you have to keep pressing the button in your
platform until you reach the desired floor. That’s because, incase of any emergency you will be able to
remove your hand and that will bring your platform to a stop immediately.
Imagine you will keep pressing the buttons inside your lift every time you go up and down. I mean
every time anyone tries to use the elevator in your home, you’ll have to first teach them how to use it
and also briefly about their own safety during travel.
Let me tell you something very interesting. If you will call Cibes and tell them that you would buy their
elevator if they change the controls from Hold to Run into Automatic like a normal lift. You will be
surprised that they will be ready to bypass the safety just for a sale. This type of allegation on this
company is all over the Internet, in fact this is the reason why many 3rd party certification companies
including TUV have rejected and black listed this company, as you understand TUV being a renowned
company, they are definitely afraid of their reputation.
Now, let’s talk about the Screw Nut technology and its benefits.
🎖️ This technology is not only old, but it’s also outdated and old schooled. Imagine, a solid screw
which will be fixed from ground to the top floor. Now, the nut is connected to your platform, which
rotates clock or anti clock wise in order to move up and down respectively.
🎖️ I am sure you could now imagine that this technology develops a lot of friction and therefore
requires monthly maintenance and lubrication. Let’s say you open up and close a screw 10 times, it
starts deteriorating right ? <Pause> Similarly, over a period of time you will start noticing squealing
noise and unmanageable vibrations will occur due to its increased wear and tear.
🎖️ The motor positioned on the platform just adds to the vibration and grinding noise when
moving. Unlike hydraulic lifts where power is consumed only while going up, this technology
consumes power both ways. In fact there are a lot of complaint’s, about the noise that’s heard even
inside rooms that’s next to this platform, but I assume these reviews are from owners with houses
made of wood.
🎖️ The nightmare in this technology is when this platform will get stuck incase of power and
battery failure. You understand that now in order to rescue the person you will have to rotate not the
nut in your platform but the entire screw of this lift. <Pause> This is neither simple nor easy for a
layman.
The most important thing that you should keep in mind when investing in a home elevator is that
your elevator should be like an extended part of your home where you are not worried about elderly
or kids using the lift.
I do not see one good reason why you will want to go for this technology over Hydraulic. As I
mentioned earlier, usually in public locations where they cannot afford an elevator go for these
platforms. For sure platforms are cheaper than hydraulic home lifts but my question to you is why
would you ever buy a platform over a proper home lift ?
Let me explain to you something clearly, unfortunately in INDIA there are no standards for Home
Elevators, you can install anything that moves up and down and call it a home elevator. You are not an
expert to check if your elevator is complying to the **European standard** and neither does **Cibes
have a reputed 3rd party certification**. You will never know if the corners are cut.
What you need to understand is that, if you will compare the lifts that Cibes was selling in the late
70’s to what is being sold today. You will hardly find any difference, in fact even a basic cabin
display is not standard yet, and a simple fan is not even an option. However with TK Access, last year
we had a completed model change. Usually TK Access is always known to be at least 10 years ahead
when it comes to setting industry standards. And I am sure when comparing with Cibes we are at least
40 years ahead.
IN SHORT - No matter how well you try to decorate a donkey it cannot run or behave like a horse, You
cannot buy a platform and expect the performance of an elevator.
Honestly, I do not see this elevator to be any different from a locally manufactured platform lift, Except
for the fact that this is being imported. I was forced to this conclusion especially after I clearly
understood their warranty terms and post sales infrastructure.
So Mr XXX, what’s your opinion about the screw and nut platforms ? <Pause>
<<Negative Close>>
No problem Mr XXX, I understand that more than quality, safety and reliability, Price is being your
only concern. Unfortunately we at TK Access …… (continue the closure pitch)
