Earthing

 Copper wire 6mm2

 Copper Rod (1-meter distance between each rod if more than 1)
 Lightning Arrestor
 Earthing material or mixture of sand, coal, salt and lime
 Copper plate (nut bolts are also of copper to avoid rusting)
 Dig hole 8’-15’ until moisture comes.
 16mm2 2 core cable with lighting arrestor (one point with lighting arrestor, while another
point with plates body).
 Earth Fault Loop Impedance Tester

Planning and Design:

**2. Components Selection:

 Earthing Electrode: Choose based on soil resistivity (e.g., rods, plates, or

conductors).
 Earthing Conductor: Select appropriate size and material for connecting the electrode
to the electrical system.
 Earthing Busbar: For connecting multiple earthing conductors to a common point.
 Earthing Rods: Commonly made of copper or galvanized steel.
 Earthing Plates: Used in areas with high soil resistivity.
 Earth Fault Loop Impedance Tester: For testing the effectiveness of the earthing
system.

**3. Installation of Earthing Electrodes:

 Drive the Electrode: Install earthing rods vertically into the ground or horizontally if
necessary. Ensure they are driven to a depth that meets local code requirements and
achieves the desired resistance.
 Place Earthing Plates: If using plates, bury them horizontally at a suitable depth.

**4. Connecting the Earthing Conductor:

 Prepare the Conductor: Clean and strip the ends of the earthing conductor.
 Attach to Electrode: Securely connect the conductor to the earthing electrode using
appropriate clamps or connections.
 Connect to Electrical System: Route the conductor to the main electrical panel and
connect it to the earthing busbar or terminal.

**5. Testing:

 Earth Resistance Measurement: Use an Earth Fault Loop Impedance Tester to

measure the resistance of the earthing system. Ensure it meets the required values as
per regulations.
 Check Connections: Verify all connections are secure and free of corrosion.
**6. Documentation and Compliance:

 Record Data: Document the installation, including measurements and any test
results.
 Compliance Check: Ensure the installation meets local electrical codes and
standards.

**7. Maintenance:

 Regular Inspections: Periodically inspect the earthing system for signs of wear,
corrosion, or damage.
 Testing: Perform regular resistance testing to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
