CHAPTER 3-COORDINATE GEOMETRY

BASIC CONCEPTS & IMPORTANT POINTS:-

LEVEL-1
1. If the point P(a − 3, a − 5) lies in fourth quadrant then a must lie between
3 and 5.Prove this.
2. What is the image of the point
a) (1, 2) in x-axis.
b) (2, 5) in y-axis.
3. Plot the points P (1, 0), Q (4, 0) and S (1, 3). Find the coordinates of the
point R such that PQRS is a square.
4. Write the coordinates of a point
a) Above x-axis lying on y-axis at a distance of 3 units.
b) Below x-axis lying on y-axis at a distance of 8 units.
c) Right of origin and on x-axis at a distance of 2 units.
5. If the perpendicular distance of a point A from the x-axis be 4 units
along the negative direction of the y-axis, then write the ordinate of A.
LEVEL-2

6. i)Plot the points A (0, 4), B (-3, 0), C (0, -4), D (3, 0).
ii)Name the figure obtained by joining the points A, B, C and D.
iii)Also, name the quadrants in which sides AB and AD lie.
7. On the graph paper, plot a point A (-2,-2).Reflect the point A in x-axis
and y-axis. Let these points be B and C. Guess the measure of BAC .
8. Write the coordinates of the vertices of a rectangle whose length and
breadth are 7 and 4 units respectively, one vertex at the origin, the longer
side lies on the x-axis and one of the vertices lies in the third quadrant.
9. Plot the following points and check whether they are collinear or not:
a) (2, 3), (3, 2), (1, − 5) b) (− 1, 1), (− 3, 3), (− 5, 5)
LEVEL-3
10. Plot the points (0, 4), (− 3, 0), (5, 0) on Cartesian plane. Name the figure
formed by joining these points and find its area.
11. Plot the points A(3,3), B (2,4), C (5,5), D(0,2), E (3,−3) and F (−5,−5) on a
graph paper. Which of these points are the mirror images in (i) x-axis (ii)
y-axis?
12. Plot the following points , join them in order and identify the figure thus
formed.
A (1,3) , B (1,-1) , C (7,-1) and D(7,3). Write the coordinates of the point
of intersection of the diagonals.
