Objectives:  Write the electron configuration of the

elements in the third period.
 Determine the pattern of filling the
orbitals based on the given distribution
of the elements;
 Devise rules in filling up the orbitals.

A. CONTENT STANDARD: thearrangement of elements in the periodic table

and trends in the properties of the elements in
terms of electronic structure

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners will be able to:

• identify the 4 different electron orbital
sublevel
 fill-up the orbital accordingly
 show electron configuration of elements

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES:  draw an orbital diagram to represent the

electronic configuration of
atoms(STEM_GC11ESIIa-b-58)

IV. PROCEDURES: TEACHERS ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

A.1. Preparatory
Activities/Daily
Routine
Good morning class! ______: student Good
morning sir Carl
1. GREETINGS:
Okay, Before we start, may I ask everyone
to please stand up for the prayer?
2. PRAYER:

Could you please lead the prayer? ______: student (prayer)

(a pupil will lead the prayer)

Okay. Thank you for that! So once again,

good morning, class!

3. Checking of
Is there any absent today? ______: student Good
attendance:
morning Ma’am!

Before you take your seats, I would like you

to please pick up the pieces of trash under
your chairs do pick it up and kindly arrange
your chairs properly. (Class monitor will update the
attendance of the class)
Okay. You may now take your seats. ______: student SIR I’m
Happy to say that nobody was
absent in our class.
(Students pick up the pieces of
trash and arrange their chairs)

(Students pick up the pieces of

trash and arrange their chairs)

Thank you Sir

A. Reviewing So before we proceed to our new topic for
previous lesson or today, let’s have a review first about what
presenting the new we discussed yesterday? ______: Sir, last time we
lesson: discussed about the names of
the 4 electron orbital sublevels

Alright very good!

Now can you tell me what the 4 orbital
electrons are? ______:Sir, the 4 orbital
electrons are the s, p, d and f.

Correct!

Now, I have here some pictures and I want

you to tell me we’re those element was
belong to s, p, d, and f group.

(Showing some pictures)

B. Establishing Now I will divide you in 2 groups,

the purpose for the
lesson: This would be group A and that would be
the group B. I want you put out your color
pencil or any colored materials that you
have now in your bag. Then color the
elements of the periodic table that I have
given to you and color which elements that
was belong in the 4 orbital electrons. (s, p,
d and f blocks.)

Is that clear? ______: Yes Sir!

OK! Show me your work, and tell us how
you determine the four electrons using the
different colors.

Let’s hear the work of ______!

Very good! You can set down now.

______: Group A. Sir this is my
work I color the s block with
color orange, p block is color
blue, d block is color green
and f block is color yellow.

Very good! Now that you know each

element belong the group, do you think
this information might be useful in
______: Group B. Sir, this is
following lesson?
my work I color the s block
with color green, p block is
color orange, d block is color
yellow and f block is color
Why is it useful?
blue.

______Yes Sir!

Alright! Very good.

______: Sir, for me it is very
useful for us to know the that
group of elements where they
belong to that so that it is easy
for us to find which an
element was belong to that
sublevel.
Again what are the 4 orbital electron are?
______:Sir, the 4 orbital
electrons are s, p, d and f

Class! Do you have any questions regarding

yesterday’s lesson?

______No Sir

If none, then let us proceed to our lesson

for today

Now are you ready to listen and to know

our new lesson class?

______: Yes! Sir

C. Presenting For example: Sodium

examples/ instances
of the new lesson:

Na=1s2,2s2,2p6,3s1=11

Are you following me class?

Other example: Potassium

K=1S2, 2S2, 2P6, 3S2,3P6, 4S1=19

Do you understand class?

______: Yes! We are Sir
D. Discussing Now for today’s lesson I will teach you on
new concepts and how to do the electron configuration on
practicing new lesson: how it applies using the 4 orbital electrons.
Rules:
Remember that s has only 2 electrons, p
has 6 electrons, d has 10 electrons, f has 14
electrons. You check on the right side of
you periodic table you can see the electron
distribution.
Ok to apply the 4 orbital electron
configuration first find the atomic number
of the element, and then right the order in
which sublevels are filled with increasing
the numbers of electrons. Follow the
arrows from to head in order. Remember
you can only reduce the electron at the end
of the sublevels.
Do you understand class? ______: Yes! Sir

Very good class!

Now I will divide you in 3 groups,

This would be group A and that would be

the group B. and last you will be the group
C.
Each group will have the envelope and
answer the question that was written in the
paper.
If you are done the leader of the group will
present your work in front of the board.

Are you done class? ______: Yes! Sir

Group A. ______ can you present your ______:Leader1. Sir the

work? element that you give to us
are calcium has the atomic
number 20 and then I solve
the element using the 4 orbital
electron
Calcium=Ca=1s2, 2s2, 2p6,
3s2, 3p6, 4s2=20 electron
Ma’am and cobalt has atomic
number27.
Cobalt=Co=1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2,
3p6, 4s2, 5s2, 4d5=27 electron
ma’am.
Excellent! that’s correct

______:Leader2. Sir the

Group 2 you present your work. element that you give to us is
aluminum and zinc. aluminum
has the atomic number of 13
Al=1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p1=13
electron Ma’am. And zinc has
the atomic number 30
Zn=1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p6,
4s2,3d10
Good job you got it right! Keep it up!

Last Group you present your work. ______:Leader3. Sir the

element that you give to us is
chlorine and strontium.
Chlorine has the atomic
number 17
Cl=1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 4s2, 3p5=17
And strontium has the atomic
number of 38.
Sr=1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 4s2, 3p6,4S2,
3d10, 4p6, 5s2=30
E. Developing Mastery What is: ______: Sir Orbital electron
Orbital electron configuration? configuration is finding the
atomic number of the
elements and solving by using
the distribution of electron.

The first step of solving the electron ______: Sir first to apply the 4
configuration? orbital electron configuration
is find the atomic number of
the element, and then right
the order in which sublevels
are filled with increasing the
numbers of electrons. Follow
the arrows from to head in
order.

______:Sir the rules is first

follow the arrows from to
What are the rules of solving the electron head in order you can only
configuration? reduce the electron at the end
of the sublevels.

Good job class! Keep it up!

F. Finding Now How can you relate our lesson or how
Practical applications important this lesson in your daily life?
of concepts and skills
in daily living
In life following the rules is very important
(valuing)
to our life. Because following rules leads
you to become a successful person in the
future.

G. Making (Asking question) ______: Sir The Periodic Table

generalizations and How is the organization of the Periodic is organized into s, p, d, and f
abstract about the Table helpful in determining an elements orbital sublevel areas that are
lesson: electron configuration? distinct

______:Sir Rows on the

Periodic Table help us
determine quantum numbers
(with "tricks" to use in d & f
orbital sublevels expected
from Honors students)
______: Sir Counting boxes on
the Periodic Table can help us
figure out how many electrons
are in each sublevel

H. Evaluating Great job class! It seems that you really do

Who got perfect? Student will raise their hands,

Very good! ______: Sir, I got perfect score

Sir

Who got 4 points?

Ok good!
______: Sir, I got 4 points
Who got zero?
Ok no one got zero. Excellent class!

None sir.
