Gelakin

Gelakin are a unique species hailing from the Tangle, a


mysterious and dense habitat teeming with a vast array
of mutated life forms. Gelakin are formed when
biological remnants in the Tangle absorb enough raw
arcane energy to reawaken a spark of intelligence
within them. The result is an entirely new Gelakin, each
distinct in shape, size, and color, with an almost fluid,
amorphous body.

Despite their unusual appearance and origins, Gelakin


are known for their friendly, if somewhat naïve,
personalities. Most have a high-pitched, curious tone
when they speak, and they are fascinated by everything
outside their secluded home. Their knowledge of the
outside world is limited; Gelakin are largely unfamiliar
with concepts like money, food, or social relationships,
which hold little relevance in the Tangle.

Though Gelakin are solitary by nature, their curiosity


sometimes drives them to explore new places and meet
other creatures. Due to their unique worldview, they
often surprise or confuse those they meet, especially
given their lack of conventional understanding of the
world.

Gelakin Names
Gelakin do not use gendered names, as they lack the
need for reproduction. Instead, they tend to name
themselves after a place, sound, or experience they find
memorable. Common names include things like Glug,
Tangle, Aeve, Slurg, Flop, and Glamp.

Gelakin Traits
Creature Type: Ooze
Size: Small or Medium (3-7 feet tall)
Speed: 30 feet

As a Gelakin, you have the following special traits:

Gelatinous Imprint. Your oozing body can imprint


footprints and other clues. You gain proficiency in the
Investigation skill.

Oozing Friendship. You know the Speak with Animals


spell and can cast it as a ritual using this trait. When
cast this way, you can communicate verbally with oozes
instead of beasts. You choose Wisdom, Intelligence, or
Charisma as your spellcasting ability for this spell when
you select this race.

Splitting Blobs. When you take slashing or lightning


damage, you can use your reaction to split into four
oozing duplicates, as if casting the Mirror Image spell
on yourself. Once the duplicates are destroyed, or the
effect’s duration ends, you merge back into one form.
You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long
rest.

Progressive Mutation. The magic of the Tangle weaves


through you, causing your body to mutate as you grow.
You gain the following benefits:

Acidic Body. You have resistance to acid damage.


Additionally, you don’t need to breathe, sleep, eat, or
drink (although you enjoy the taste of biological
waste).

Unusual Structure. At 3rd level, you gain advantage


on saving throws against being blinded or knocked
prone.

Amorphous. Starting at 5th level, you can move


through spaces as narrow as 1 inch wide without
squeezing, though any equipment that doesn’t fit is
left behind.
