(a) Haversian canal (b) Chondrocyte (c) Eosinophils
Give one function of each of these.
Q9. Discuss the cell arrangement which supports the fact that epidermis is a protective tissue.
B. Long Answer.

Q15. (a) Identify the tissue.

(b) Labels the parts marked 1, 2 and 3.
(c) What type of this tissue and where it occurs in body
Assertion Reasons
Directions: In the following questions, a statement of assertion is followed by a statement of reason. Mark the correct
choice as:
(a) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(b) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(c) If assertion is true but reason is false.
(d) If both assertion and reason are false
1. Assertion: Vascular or conductive tissue is a distinctive feature of complex plants.
Reason: Vascular tissue has made survival of complex plants possible in terrestrial environment.
2. Assertion: The combination of nerve and muscle tissues enable animal to move rapidly in response to stimuli.
Reason: The cells of both nerve and muscle tissue are highly specialised for being stimulated and transmitting stimulus
from one place to another in the body.
3. Assertion: Most of plant tissues are dead.
Reason: Due to sedentary existence of plants, dead cells provide mechanical strength more easily than live ones and
needs less maintenance.
4. Assertion: Muscle fibres are said to be contractile in nature.
Reason: Muscle fibres can shorten during contraction and again return to the relaxed state.
5. Assertion: Ciliated epithelium helps in movement of particles.
Reason: Cilia help in movement.
6. Assertion: Surface of skin is impervious to water.
Reason: Surface of skin is covered by stratified cuboidal epithelium.
7. Assertion: Apical meristems are present only at the apices of the stem.
Reason: Apical meristems do not add length to plants.
8. Assertion: Lateral meristems add thickness to plants.
Reason: Lateral meristems divide only in one plane.
9. Assertion: Both root and shoot apex are growing point.
Reason: Apical meristems are located there.
10. Assertion: Parenchyma cells help in storage of food.
Reason: Parenchyma cells are the main seat of photosynthesis.
11 Assertion: Non-striated muscles are said to be voluntary in nature.
Reason: Non-striated muscles can be moved according to will.
12 Assertion: The inner lining of intestine has tall epithelial cells.
Reason: Columnar epithelium facilitates absorption and secretion.
13 Assertion: Tissues give the highest possible efficiency of function.
Reason: Tissues bring about division of labour in multicellular organisms.
14. Assertion Meristematic tissues constitute the major portion of the plant body.
Reason: Meristematic tissues consist of differentiated cells.
15. Assertion: Parenchyma and collenchyma tissues act as mechanical tissue to plants. Reason: They form an important
part of the bark of trees.
16. Assertion: Permanent tissue is composed of mature cells.
Reason: Meristematic tissue is a group of actively dividing cells.
17. Assertion: Both apical meristem and intercalary meristem are primary meristems.
Reason: Both of these meristems appear early in life of a plant and help in the formation of the primary plant body.
18. Assertion: Vessel and sieve tube both are meant for transport purposes.
Reason: Vessels are lignified.
19. Assertion: The rigidity in leaf is due to sclerenchyma.
Reason: Sclerenchyma are dead tissue and provide mechanical strength.
20. Assertion: Intercalated discs are important regions of cardiac muscle cells.
Reason: Intercalated discs function as boosters for muscle contraction waves
