FOOD CHAIN
What is a Food Chain?
A food chain is the event of eating and being eaten between fellow living
things.
Components of the Food Chain
The process of eating and being eaten in this food chain takes place
continuously with its respective components.
There are three components in the food chain:
1. Producers
Producers are organisms that have the ability to make their own
food, for example green plants.
2. Consumers
Consumers are living things that depend on other creatures
because they cannot make their own food.
Consumers are divided into three levels:
1) Primary consumers are those that eat primary producers
(plants). For example, rabbits eat grass.
2) Secondary consumers are those that eat primary consumers
(herbivores). For example, snakes eat rabbits.
3) Tertiary consumers are those that eat secondary consumers
(large predators). For example, owls eat snakes.
3. Decomposers
