I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the teaching learning session, the students should be able to:
 explain Newton's laws of motion;
 perform different activities that demonstrate Newton's laws of
motion through “Newton’s Olympics”;
 appreciate the relevance of Newton's laws in real-life situations.
A. Learning Competency/ The learners should be able to:
Objectives  investigate the relationship between the amount of force applied
and the mass of the object to the amount of change in the object ‘s
motion (S8FE-Ia-15);
 infer that when a body exerts a force on another, an equal amount
of force is exerted back on it (S8FE-Ia-16);

Good morning, class! It’s nice to see you all here today.

Good morning, Ma’am! It’s nice to see you too.

a.3 Classroom conditioning
Since every class session we are changing the
arrangement of your chairs into something new, today,
will arrange them into three semicircles! Just like how
we always do it, I’ll play a song for you to sing along
while arranging your chairs and when the song ends,
Yes, Ma’am!
everything should be in order. Are you ready?

(The Teacher plays the song “Walking Walking”)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPMjnlTEZwU (The students sing along while arranging their
chairs)

Okay, the song has ended. Let me see your chairs. Very
good, those are indeed three semicircles! Give
yourselves a Good Job Clap! (The students perform the Good Job Clap)

Before you take your seat, kindly look at your left, right,
front, and back to check if there’s any piece of trash near
(The students follow the teacher’s instructions)
you and pick it up.

a.4. Checking of Attendance

I hope everyone’s day is going well.
Class secretary is there anyone absent today? None, Ma’am.

That is good to hear, it seems like everyone is ready for

today.

a.5. Checking of Assignments

I gave you a research assignment last meeting, right? Yes, Ma’am.

Alright, kindly pass your assignments sideward to the

B. Review of the Previous Lesson/Motivation

Before we start, I would like to know if you still

remember our lesson last time. So, I prepared a simple
yet exciting game for you. Are you ready?
Yes, Ma’am!

Activity 1: GUESS WHOAT?

(The teacher will flash the instructions on the screen)

Can someone read the instruction for our activity?

(The students raise their hands)

Yes, Elisia? Game Mechanics:

1. The class will be divided into two (2)
groups. They will choose one
representative per group.
2. The task is to guess the picture correctly.
3. There are jumbled letters pasted on the
board.
4. If your guess is correct, you can decide
whether you answer or pass the jumbled
letters to your groupmate.
5. If your guess is wrong, you have no
choice but to arrange the jumbled letters.

Okay, the left side will be the group 1 while the right
side will be the group 2. For each item you will change
your representative. Is that clear?

Yes, Ma’am!
I will give you an example.

Job Clap. (The students perform the Good Job Clap)

C. Lesson Proper

Class, I have an additional item for you to guess. This

time, anyone can answer.

(The teacher presents the additional item)

Can you guess who is behind this picture?

(Students raise their hands)

The person behind the image is Isaac Newton,

Yes, Gina?
Ma’am.

Very good! Now, what is Isaac Newton famous for?

(Students raise their hands)
Yes, Jinwoo?

The three laws of motion, Ma’am.

Very well said! I know you are all familiar with the three (Students raise their hands)
laws of motion. Can anyone state the three of them?

The three laws of motion are the Law of Inertia,

Yes, Ara?
the Law of Acceleration, and the Law of
Interaction,

Wow, you indeed have the prior knowledge about the

Newton’s Laws of Motion. Because of that, I prepared a
series activity for our today’s lesson.
(Students raise their hands)
Is there anyone here who wants or dreams to join an
Olympics one day?

Wow, it seems like there are future Olympians here.

Today, we will hold an Olympics. It is called the Each group will have two representatives for each

the representatives for every station. The students
should be able to accomplish each task and
answer the guide questions.

Okay, after performing the activities for each station, I

will give you 15 minutes to answer the guide questions. Yes, Ma’am!
Is that clear?

Activity 2: Newton Olympics

Station 1: Law of Inertia.

Materials: Index cards, paper cups.
Procedure:
1. Stack five paper cups in a tower, placing an index
(The students will perform the activity)
card between each cup.
2. Starting from the top, swiftly pull the first index
card straight backward, avoiding any angled
pulls.
3. Continue removing the index cards in the same
manner, working from top to bottom, and observe
how the cups remain stacked.
Guide Questions:
I quickly pull the index card.
1. What technique did you use to successfully stack
the paper cups?

Station 2: Law of Acceleration

Materials:
 Crumpled paper
 Stones
 Pen
 Ruler
Procedure:
Part A: Constant Force (The students will perform the activity)
1. Position the crumpled paper in front of the ruler.
2. Gently pull the ruler back and let it go.
3. Next, place a stone in front of the ruler.
4. Again, carefully pull the ruler back and release it,
making sure to pull it to the same point each time
to keep the force consistent.
Part B: Constant Mass
1. Place the crumpled paper in front of the ruler.
2. Gently pull the ruler back and release it.
3. Repeat the process, but this time pull the ruler
back further than in the first trial.

Guide Questions:
1. When the ruler was bent backward with a
constant force, which moved faster—the
crumpled paper or the stone? What is the reason The crumpled paper traveled farther because it
for this? has less mass compared to the stone.

3. Describe the relationship between acceleration, proportional to the net force applied, and
an object's mass, and the force applied to it. inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
(The students will proceed to the next station)

Station 3: Law of Interaction

Materials: (The students will perform the activity)
 String
 Straw
 Balloon
 Tape
Procedure:
1. Pull a string tightly across the classroom and
slide a straw onto it.
2. Blow up a balloon without sealing it, attach it to
the straw with tape, and then let it go.

Guide Questions:

Okay, it’s about time to check all of your answers.

Kindly post your answers on board.
(The students will post their answers on the
board)

Yes, Ma’am!
Did you enjoy our own version of Olympics?

That is good to hear! Let us now check your answers.

reaction.

D. Practical applications of concepts and skills in

daily living

Now, I want you to think of the moments or

circumstances in our daily lives where we can apply and
prove Newton’s three laws of motion.
Give me at least one example. Let us start with the Law
of Inertia.
A book resting on a table. The book will remain
at rest unless a force (like someone pushing it)
acts upon it. Similarly, if you slide the book, it
will continue moving until friction or another
force stops it.

Very well said! How about the Law of Acceleration?

Pushing a shopping cart. The acceleration of the
shopping cart depends on the force applied and
the mass of the cart. If the cart is empty, it
accelerates quickly when you push it. If it's full, it
requires more force to achieve the same
acceleration.

Very good! Now, for the Law of Interaction.

Jumping off a small boat onto the shore. When
you jump forward (action), the boat moves
backward (reaction). This is because your legs
push against the boat, and the boat pushes back
with an equal and opposite force.

E. Generalization

Can someone tell me who formulated the Laws of Isaac Newton formulated the Laws of Motion.
Motion?

Very good! Now, state the three Laws of Motion. First law of motion (Law of inertia)
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in
motion stays in motion with the same speed and
in the same direction unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.

Second law of motion (Law of Acceleration)

Force F is the product of an object's mass and its
acceleration.

Third law of motion (Law of Interaction)

For every action there is an equal and opposite
reaction.
