ABOUT AutoCAD

 Computer-Aided Drafting program, AutoCAD, is a very versatile

and popularly used program. It is primarily used for two

dimensional (2D) drawing and documentation and has many

features for drawing plans, detail drawings and 3D.

 It allows for quick changes to the design and is commonly used

amongst professionals for facilitating exchange of information or

design development.

 Drawing is the language of architects, engineers,

draughtsmen, builders and AUTOCAD is the tool.

ABOUT AutoCAD
 The AutoCAD or computer aided design has been a great help to

Architects, Engineers, Builders and others bring together large

scale projects. Developed and marketed by Autodesk, Inc.

 Autocad has found adaptation for the development of 3D design

software like Revit and for use by engineers in Structural and MEP

design, etc.

 AutoCAD is a software application for both 2D and 3D computer-

aided design (CAD) and drafting — available since 1982 as a

desktop application and since 2010 as a mobile web- and cloud-

based app, currently marketed as Autocad 360.

COORDINATE SYSTEM
 LEARN THE X,Y,Z COORDINATE SYSTEM
 DRAWINGS ARE CONSTRUCTED USING THE CARTESIAN
COORDINATE SYSTEM X-Y-Z
 ORIGIN = (0,0,0)
 RECTANGULAR COORDINATES
X = HORIZONTAL
Y = VERTICAL
Z = THIRD DIMENSION
 DISTANCE MEASURE HORIZONTALLY IS AN X VALUE
 DISTANCE MEASURED VERTICALLY IS A Y VALUE.
 ADD THE Z, CREATES 3D DRAWING.
ZOOM
 IN ADDITION TO USING THE MOUSE YOU CAN
ALSO USE THE ZOOM COMMAND WİTH
AUTOCAD.
 THIS DOESNT CHANGE YOUR OBJECTS OR
UCS, ONLY THE WAY YOU SEE YOUR WORKING
SPACE. THIS CAN BE DONE IN MANY WAYS:
Typing Z or ZOOM in your command
window.
 All – Zooms the entire work area
 Center – Zooms to the Center of the work
space
 Extents – Zooms the extents of your
drawing
 Previous – Zooms to the last zoom setting
 Scale - Allows you to specify a zoom scale
 Window – Allows selection of a zoom
window
PRECISION TOOLS
OSNAP SETTING
 OSNAP (OBJECT SNAP) SETTINGS MAKE IT EASIER TO
SELECT A 2D OBJECT’S POINTS
 Endpoint
 Midpoint
 Perpendicular
 Center
 İntersection
 Nearest

 OSNAP WILL BE ACTIVE WHEN

AUTOCAD IS EXPECTING YOU TO
PICK A POINT IN THE WORKING AREA
POLAR TRACKING and ORTHO
When you need to specify a point, such as when you
create a line, you can use polar tracking to guide
the movement of your cursor in certain directions

Ortho can be used to lock the movement in the

horizontal and vertical directions
DRAWING A LINE
 AutoCAD RECOGNIZES AN OBJECT BY ITS
COORDINATES. YOU WILL NEED TWO GIVEN
POINTS TO DRAW A LINE. SEE DEFAULT UCS (User
Coordinate System)
(x2,y2,z2)

(x1,y1,z1)

 Choose a random point on your screen for your

first point, then specify your second point by
clicking on a second point. Press ESC to exit
 Try above process by clicking first point and
entering coordinates 1450,450,0 for the second
point. Press Enter . Press ESC to exit

1. GIVE THE COMMAND

 Type “L” in the command window, OR
 Click on the LINE icon on the Draw toolbar
2. SPECIFY THE FIRST POINT
 Click on a random point on your working area
3. SPECIFY THE SECOND POINT IN RELATION TO
THE FIRST POINT
 Enter 2000 in the highlighted box. Press TAB
 Enter 30 in the Angle box
 Press Enter then ESC to end command
EXERCISE 1
 LET’S DRAW A STAR TO FAMILIARIZE
OURSELVES WITH THE LINE COMMAND

DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE PROPORTION. JUST GIVE IT A GO

DRAWING A CIRCLE
 CLICK ON THE CIRCLE COMMAND OR ENTER “C”
IN THE COMMAND LINE. YOU WILL NEED TWO
GIVEN POINTS TO DRAW A CIRCLE.
 Choose a random point on your screen for your
first point, then specify your second point by
clicking on a second point.
 Try above process by clicking first point and
entering 500 in highlighted box for the second
point. Press Enter . You will create a circle with
a Radius of 500
DRAW A RECTANGLE AND POLYGON
 CLICK ON THE RECTANGLE ICON OR ENTER RECTANG
IN THE COMMAND LINE

 CLICK ON POLYGON ICON. SPECIFY THE NUMBER OF
