PHYSICS IMPORTANT QUESTIONS FOR RED ZONE STUDENTS

UNIT-1
1 Derive Schrodinger's time-independent and time-dependent wave equations.
2 Write down the Schrodinger wave equation for a particle in a one-dimensional box and solve it to find out
the Eigen value and Eigen function.
3 What do you understand by Compton Effect? Derive an expression for Compton shift.
4 Describe Davisson and Germer experiment to demonstrate the wave nature of particle.
5 What do you understand by phase velocity and group velocity? Establish a relation between them.

UNIT-2
1 Derive the wave equation of electric and magnetic field for free space and show that the velocity of plane
EM wave in free space is given by c = 1/√μ0ɛ0.
2 Define Poynting vector. State and prove Poynting’s theorem (Work -Energy theorem) for the flow of
energy in EM waves and explain its physical significance.
3 Derive the wave equation for conducting media.
4 Prove that EM waves are transverse in nature.
5 Explain the concept of displacement current and show how it led to the modification of Ampere’s law.

UNIT-3

1. Discuss the phenomenon of interference of light due to thin film of uniform thickness and find the conditions
of maxima and minima. Show that the interference patterns of reflected and transmitted monochromatic
light are complementary.
2. Discuss the formation of interference fringes due to wedge shaped thin film and obtain an expression for
the fringe width.
3. Describe and explain the formation of Newton’s rings. Prove that in reflected light (i) diameters of bright
rings are proportional to the square root of odd natural numbers. (ii) diameters of dark rings are proportional
to the square root of natural numbers.
4. Discuss the phenomenon of Fraunhofer diffraction at a single slit and show that the relative intensity of the
successive maximum are nearly 1 : (4/9π2) : (4/25π2) : 4/49π2 and so on.
5. Give the construction and theory of plane transmission grating and explain the formation of spectra by it.
Explain what are absent spectra in the grating.

UNIT-4
1. Explain acceptance angle and acceptance cone of an optical fibre. What do you mean by numerical aperture?
Derive expressions for them.
2. Draw a neat Diagram of a He-Ne laser/Ruby Laser describe its working principle. How can you say that He –
Ne laser is superior to Ruby laser?
3. Differentiate spontaneous emission and stimulated emission. Drive the relation between Einstein’s
coefficients.
4. Describe various types of optical fibres based on modes and core refractive index.
5. Discuss the basic principle mechanism of optical fibre. Define Attenuation and discuss the different types of
losses in optical fibre.
