Balancing Redox Reaction

Balance the equation showing the oxidation of
Fe+2 ions to Fe+3 ions by dichromate ions in an
acidic medium.
Redox reaction
Use oxidation numbers to decide which of the following are redox reactions.
For redox reaction, identify the species that undergo the reduction and
oxidation reaction; and the oxidizing and reducing agent.

1. 4KNO3(s) ----> 2K2O(s) + 2N2(g) + 5O2 (g)

Electrode Potentials and Cell EMF
Gibbs Free Energy & Spontaneity of Reactions

1. Predict whether a spontaneous reaction will occur when the following

reactants and products are in their standard states:

𝐹𝑒 2+ + 𝐶𝑟𝑂7−2 → 𝐹𝑒 3+ + 𝐶𝑟 3+

2. Calculate ∆G and the equilibrium constant at 25 deg C for the reaction

𝐵𝑟 − + 𝐼2 → 𝐵𝑟2 + 𝐼 −

When the concentration of Zn2+ is 0.15 M, the measured voltage of a Zn-Cu

galvanic cell is 0.40 V. What is the Cu2+ ion concentration?
Electrolysis
1. How many grams of copper metal would be deposited from a
solution of CuSO4 by the passage of 3.0 A of electrical current
through an electrolytic cell for 2.0 hours?
