Matching Problematic
Learning Situation with
4 Probable Action
26
also observed these problematic situations when you did your FS 1 course. But
matching these problems with appropriate action is trickier.
A group of more than six hundred teachers was surveyed and asked
what teaching learning problems confront them. Here are their answers put
together in a wordle.
Study the wordle below. Each word represents an issue or a problem
which was reported by teachers in the field. Which of the words do you
recognize as a problem? Draw a CIRCLE around five words that you have also
identified as problems in teaching-learning.
27
Each of the identified problem that you encircle has a corresponding
action or solution.
Identified Action as
Problems Solution
What five problems have you identified from the words that you have
encircled? Make a statement. Write in the space below.
Excellent! Let us see how we can assist and learn at the same time.
28
How can you assist your mentor, after knowing that the learners have difficulty
in comprehension?
Suppose you chose letter A. Conduct a Tutorial. So you have identified the
SOLUTION that matches the PROBLEM which is Difficulty in Comprehension.
Can you also choose letter B: Show video lesson as s SOLUTION for the same
PROBLEM? Yes
Explain
- When students engage with video content, their ability to hear and
comprehend spoken words plays a crucial role. Hearing comprehension is
equally significant in the context of reading, as one must develop a foundation
in auditory understanding to comprehend written text. Drawing a parallel to the
early stages of human development, much like infants learn to understand
29
language through hearing before they begin to read, individuals initially rely on
auditory comprehension to grasp the meaning of written material. Therefore,
the connection between hearing, comprehension, and the learning process
underscores the importance of auditory skills in the broader spectrum of
language acquisition and understanding.
30
Interesting, isn’t it? Now, you can assist your mentor by identifying observed problems
in the class and suggest actions to be done.
Notice
What have you noticed of the problem identified above? Can there be more
than one solution to the problem? Explain
- Reading difficulty commonly appears as one of the problems faced by the
teacher. It happens due to lack of supervision of the child at home and their
caregivers may not supplement their needs to read. Also, teachers might be
overlooking them in their primary level of education which results in them
having difficulty in reading. Furthermore, there is more than one solution that
could help this problem such as engaging students in a video presentation,
remedial class, learning tasks, and giving them reading homework to track
their progress.
A creative and innovative teacher can find one or more than one solution or
answer to the same problem. Each solution matches with the problem. The more
solutions identified to choose from, the better for an action researcher.
Analyze
Let us try to look into the following scenarios in the daily life of a teacher.
This scenario might also be similar to the class you have observed and noticed.
31
• Can you identify Miss Fely’s problem? _Miss Fely’s problem is that her
students cannot classify which animal lands as vertebrates and
invertebrates when she repeatedly taught them the same topic for two
weeks.
• Can you find a solution to solve her problem? _Yes_ Give your two
suggestions.
a. Printed and electronic materials such as pictures of vertebrates and
invertebrates animals may aid students in identifying and retaining the
information given to them.
b. Miss Fely should have asked students if they understood or if they had
questions and clarification amidst discussion so that she could
immediately address them and no longer have to teach them repeatedly.
• How?
- Since a solution has been identified, the teacher must select appropriate
picture to display them for presentation. It must be adequate and would
be better if the teacher provides many pictures of vertebrates and
invertebrates animals so that students will be engaged and retain what
they see.
32
Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his
learners come from families that are disrupted, either with single parents or with
their guardians who stand only as parents. They are deprived of the necessary
food, clothing, and shelter.
• Can you propose a solution to solve the problem that you have
identified?
- Home visitation will help the teacher understand the situation that
students currently have. Knowing the roots of their misbehavior and poor
attendance will give an idea of how to solve them. As a teacher,
communicating with parents and guardians helps in convincing them to
pursue their child to go the school and gives them proper guidance.
Reflect
After reading the two scenarios given above, how would identifying
problematic situations and finding solutions to these problems help you to
become a better teacher?
Explain:
- Being able to identify problematic situations in the classroom helps me
become a better teacher simply because I can provide various solutions
33
and employ them. Also, once you become a teacher there is no escape
from facing numerous problems, that is why it is important to possess
critical thinking skills since it will us identify what the problem is and
define a solution to it. Aside from that, being observant of the
surroundings will help in making prompt solutions to enhance the
learning of the students.
Using any of one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts
that follow:
OBSERVE
What problematic situation prevails in the classroom?
- Tardiness, number of dropouts, and misbehavior in class are some of the
problematic situations that happen in the classroom. Relating this to the
scenario of Sir Ryan where his students live in a disadvantaged urban
community. Most of his students were unprivileged enough to meet the
requirements in the school because maybe some of them didn’t have any
financial support from their parents and that caused them to leave school
and lack motivation to go to school.
REFLECT
What changes do you want to achieve?
- Prioritize community engagement to identify areas for improvement in the
lives of students. Establish after-school programs to instill a passion for
education and learning. Recognize the significance of counseling services,
especially in the absence of parental guidance for many students. By
offering counseling within the school, students can address their personal
issues, creating a lighter, more supportive environment and preventing
potential challenges.
-
34
PLAN
What strategies will you use to improve the situation?
- To address this issue comprehensively, I plan to conduct regular home
visits to monitor the students' situations. It is the responsibility of teachers
to assure them of their safety and well-being. Leveraging community
support, I can propose and recommend programs that could be beneficial,
particularly in terms of livelihood initiatives. This approach aims to secure
financial aid for the students and sustain their essential needs.
ACT
What be the title of your Action Research should you conduct the study?
- "Holistic Community Engagement: A Comprehensive Approach to
Enhancing Student Well-being, Safety, and Livelihood Opportunities"
Add: Solution/actions
- I plan to seek support from my colleagues to collaborate on making these
changes possible and involve them actively in taking necessary actions.
Their participation increases the likelihood of bringing about positive
transformations, benefiting both the learners and the community.

III. Abstract :
- The establishment of the Senior High School program in the Philippines
has put technical vocational education in the limelight. The offering of
techvoc education in various schools is aimed at equipping the students
with the skills and knowledge needed should they choose middle-level
employment after graduation. This study aims to serve as a guide to
school administrators for them to effectively implement the program
36
despite the challenges. This study was conducted to evaluate the
implementation of the Technical Vocational Livelihood Track in public
senior high schools in the Division of Batangas in terms of level of
adequacy of inputs, level of compliance with the standards of Department
of Education, extent of implementation of processes, and level of
satisfaction with outputs. The descriptive-evaluative research design was
used in the study. The participants were 36 school heads, 119 TVL
teachers, and 375 students of public senior high schools. A self-made
survey questionnaire was utilized but interviews and documentary analysis
were also conducted to identify the problems met in the implementation.
Spearman Rank was used to determine the extent of relationships
between and among the variables of the study. The Kruskall Wallis H Test
was used to determine the extent of difference among the assessments of
the three groups of participants. Inputs in the TVL track was adequate
while compliance to DepEd standards was found to be of great extent.
The extent of implementation of the processes was found to be very high
extent while the level of satisfaction was rated as very satisfied. A
significant relationship was found between level of satisfaction and
adequacy of inputs, level of satisfaction and compliance with standards,
and level of satisfaction and extent of implementation. In addition,
significant difference was found among the evaluation made by the three
participants on the adequacy of input, level of compliance, extent of
implementation, and level of satisfaction. To further evaluate the
effectiveness of the TVL track, the study suggests that future researches
concerning employability of techvoc graduates may be conducted.
