“ The ability to monitor one's own and others’ emotions, to


discriminate among them, and to use the information to guide
one’s thinking and actions” (Salovey & Mayer 1990, p.189).

understand your responsibility as a writer/student.

• Generative AI is used as part of this assessment – check Assessment 1


guidelines on this carefully before beginning. Vedio and handbook

• Harvard Referencing style is required (author, date). See resources on


Moodle. The Reference List does not count toward the word limit.

• Use the resources given, only course materials.

Before we start - Ask the right questions: Assessment 1?

• Anything to do with formatting are in the Assessment Guide. Have you watched the
assessment video? There are resources on how to reference. Consistency is important.
Integrity is important. All AI USE MUST be acknowledged. Remember your document
must show your changes and process.

Building an argument - you need to persuade us

• Position – thesis statement. What you try to talk to you boss

• What points do you want to make? Do no place to many points

• Based on what? What support do you have


to use?
• Lead the reader to why it is important
• Show the risk or downsides too
When writing your memo, remember:

• This is an academic piece of work - use formal


language as you would in business.
• It must be written in your own words. Use GenAI, but
show us your process; how was your work changed
and updated?
• It must be referenced and supported by course
materials ONLY, using in-text citations and a reference
list (using Harvard Referencing)
How to reference?
• Harvard is the author date system
• Hence in-text, it is (Surname, date) or if it is according to someone then
Surname (date) …
• Explore the uses of both types – no initials are used in-text
• Page numbers for direct quotes BUT explore why we do not use direct quotes
• Reference list vs Bibliography
• End citations
• Surname, initials, date, name of article, name of journal, volume, page numbers.
