 This paper consists of section A, B and C with total number of eleven (11)
questions.
 Answer all questions in the space provided
 All writing must be in black or blue pen except for diagrams which must be
in pencil.
 Write your examination number at the top right corner of every page
 The following atomic masses may be used; H = 1, 0 = 16, S= 32, Cl = 35.5, Na
= 23, C = 12, Ag = 108, N =14
SECTION A (16 marks)

Answer ALL questions in this section


1. For each of the following item (i)-(x) choose the correct answer from among
the given alternatives and write its letter beside item number in the answer
booklet provided.
(i) Steam and methane can react and produce hydrogen gas according to the
following equation.

Answer ALL questions in this section
3. About 2.65g anhydrous sodium carbonate were placed in a 250cm3 flask and
the volume made to the mark with distilled water. Msaki pipette 25.00cm 3 of this
solution and titrate with 23.00cm 3 of sulphuric acid to reach equivalent point. Find
the mass of the pure acid present in a litre solution.

4.(a) What mass of FeSO4 . 7H2 O, do you need to Dose Anemic cat with 50mg of
ion?
(b)The density of 𝑂2 at 0°C and 02 and 1atm is 1.429g/v. Calculate the molar
volume of the gars.

6. Study the following chart then use it to answer questions that follow:

(c) Write the chemical equation for the:
(i) Combustion of CH3 CH2 OH
(ii) Conversion of CH2=CH2 to CH3CH2OH

7.(a) When nitrogen dioxide gas is passed over heated copper it oxidizes Copper
to its high oxide and itself, it is reduced to nitrogen gas. How many nitrogen
molecules will be produced if 25.65 of copper were used at s.t.p?
(b)Complete and balance the following equations.

8.(a) Chemistry is a career subject. The knowledge obtained from chemistry


lesson can be used to solve various problems in the fields. You as a chemist

from rusting.
(i) Nuts and Screws in an aeroplane
(ii) Iron sheet for roofing
(iii) Body of a car.
(b)How many Coulombs are there required to liberate 8g of calcium?
(c) Calculate the oxidation number (state) of the following elements.
(i) Nitrogen in 𝐶𝑎 𝑁𝑂3 2
(ii) Carbon in 𝐶𝑂32−

SECTION C(30 Marks)


Answer any two question from this section.

9. Form three students of certain secondary School prepared acid solution by


dissolving 10.08g of hydrated ethanedioic (oxalic) acid in distilled water to make
500cm3 of this solution. 25cm 3 of this solution was titrated against 20cm3 solution
containing 4g of sodium hydroxide in 250cm 3 of the solution. Showing your
procedure clearly.
(i) Calculate the value of X in hydrated ethane dive-acid H2 C2 O4 . XH2 O
(ii) Calculate the percentage by mass of water of crystallization in
H2 C2 O4 . XH2 O
(iii) Suggest the suitable indicator for the titration between sodium hydroxide
and oxalic acid.

10. A blast furnace is used in the chemical reduction of iron ore( haematite) into
ion metal, with the aid of chemical reactions equations, Briefly explain all the
important steps involved in the blast furnace (diagram is not required).

11.(a) The volatile liquid mercaptan, 𝐶2 𝐻6 𝑆 of the most odoriferous substance


known. It is sometime added to natural gas to make gas leaks detectable. How
many 𝐶2 𝐻6 𝑆 molecules are contained in a 1.091L sample? The density of liquid
mercaptan is 0.849g/ml
(b) What mass of K 2 or O4 is needed to prepare exactly 0.2500L of a 0.250m
K a CrO4 solution in water.
