1. This paper consists of Sections A, B and C with a total of Eleven (11) questions.
2. Answer all questions from section A and B and two (2) question from section C
3. Section A carries sixteen (16) marks, section B carries fifty four (54) marks and section C
carries thirty (30) marks.
4. Non programmable calculators may be used.
5. Cellular phones and unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room.
6. Write your Examination Number on every page of your answer booklet (s).
7. The following constants may be used where necessary;

Gas “A” is used to prepare water gas in the laboratory and gas “B” is used for treating sewage
plants.

(ii) With two reasons name the method used to collect gas “B” in the laboratory.
(b) Explain how extraction of metals is applied to;
(i) Agriculture
(ii) Construction
4. (a) Industrially, sulphur is converted into sulphur dioxide which is subsequently oxidized to
sulphur trioxide and finally dissolved in water to form sulphuric acid.
(i) Name the catalyst used in the oxidation of sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide.
(ii) Write an equation for the above conversion.
(iii) Name the compound formed when sulphur trioxide reacts with concentrated sulphuric acid
(b) Explain how sulphur is used in the following areas:
(i) Automobile industry
(ii) Treatment of diseases
(iii) Agriculture
5. (a) On heating, a green solid A gave off gas B which turned lime water milky, and a black solid C.
When dissolved in warm dilute sulphuric acid, solid C formed a blue solid D.
Identify substances A to D, and write their corresponding reaction equations.

(b) Now days most of the government leaders insist people to conserve the environment in their
speech. What do you think the reasons for the leaders to put more emphasis? (any 4 points)

(b) Given that 204J, 208K, 207L and AM are isotopes of element H whose abundance are 2%, 24%,
22% and X % respectively. Calculate A and X if atomic mass of H = 207
7. (a) Explain why?
(i) Non – luminous flame is formed when air hole of a Bunsen burner is opened.
(ii) It is not possible to separate the mixtures of the liquids with equal boiling points.
(iii) Most of the laboratory apparati are made of glass.

(b) Industries are among the leading sources of air pollutants;


(i) Explain four substances that are released from industries which contribute to air pollution.
(ii) Explain two other sources of air pollutants apart from (b) i) above

8. The equation below shows the reversible reaction involving dinitrogen tetra oxide and nitrogen dioxide
𝑁2 𝑂4(𝑔) 2𝑁𝑂2(𝑔) ∆𝐻 = +𝑣𝑒

If the sealed bulb containing an equilibrium mixture of the two gases was heated the mixture goes
darker in color.
(a) Is the equilibrium moving left or right as temperature rises? What does this tell you about this
reaction mixture?
(b) If the pressure inside the bulb was increased, how would you expect the mixture to change color?
Explain your answer.
(c) Name and state the Law applied in (a) and (b) above

SECTION C (30 marks)


Answer any two questions in this section.

9. A form four student had a task to mop the laboratory chamber, accidentally bees attacked and bite on
her hand. The technician advice to apply cucumber juice to the bite surface. Explain six (6)
importance of the process taking place on the skin surface to our daily life after applying the
cucumber juice.

10. An organic compound A has only 80% carbon and rest being hydrogen. The compound has vapor
density of 15. When compound A undergo photolytic substitution with bromine, a colorless liquid B
is formed. Treatment of B with heated potassium hydroxide form compound C. Oxidation of C using
acidified potassium permanganate gave D. Combination of C and D in the presence of sulphuric acid
give E.
(a) Deduce compound A
(b) With the given most reagent, deduce compound B, C, D and E
(c) Give four (4) harmful effect of class of compound C to human being

11. How can the farmer ensure that the farm has optimal levels of P, C, H, K, Ca, Mg, S, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn,
