(12) Pressure reducing valve (lowering control)
(13) Stem (float valve)
(14) Shuttle valve (ball resolver).
The main control valve is located in the loader frame. The standard main control
valve is equipped two stems. One stem controls the lift function of the machine.
The remaining stem controls the tilt operation of the machine. The main control
valve is open centered. Supply oil flows through the valve and back to the hydraulic
tank. As one of the stems is shifted, the supply oil through the main control valve is
blocked and the supply oil flows by the main control valve past the load check
valve to the appropriate stem. The stem that is shifted will direct the supply oil to
the appropriate actuator. If the pressure of the supply oil exceeds the adjusted
pressure of main relief valve (1), the valve opens. The pressure that exceeds the
adjusted pressure is vented to the hydraulic tank.
Reference: For additional information about the main relief valve, refer to the
Service Manual module Systems Operation, RENR6217, "Relief Valve" for the
machine that is being serviced.

The test and adjustment for the pressure reducing valve (lowering control) ensures
that the machine has the correct pilot pressure that is required to lower the lift
linkage on a machine with a dead engine.

Preparation for Troubleshooting

1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Ensure that the machine is away from
any operating machines.
2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the
machine or in sight of the operator.
3. Lower the bucket and/or attachment to the ground.
4. Place the switch (hydraulic lockout) in the UNLOCKED position. Cycle the control
levers through all positions in order to release the pressure in the implement
hydraulic system.
5. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
6. Relieve the pressure in the hydraulic tank.
ReferenceFor additional information about relieving the pressure in the
hydraulic system, refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting,
"System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.
7. Install the steering frame lock.
8. Engage the parking brake. Place blocks in front of the wheels and in back of the
wheels.

Testing the Pressure Relief Valve (Lowering Control)

Main Control Valve

(1) Check valve. (2) Hose to the solenoid valve (hydraulic lockout)

1. Remove hose (2) from check valve (1) . Install Tooling (A) to check valve (1) and
connect hose (2) to Tooling (A) .
Note: The hose and the check valve can be reached from the articulation
joint.
2. Connect Tooling (B) and (C) . Connect Tooling (B) to the pressure tap on Tooling (A)
.
3. Start the engine and warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.
4. Raise the lift linkage to the mid-travel position and return the lift control lever to the
HOLD position. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
5. Lower the lift linkage. Observe the pilot pressure on the pressure gauge during
travel. The pilot pressure setting should be 1800 ± 300 kPa (260 ± 45 psi).
6. If the pressure setting for the pilot pressure is correct, turn the key start switch to the
ON position and lower the lift linkage to the ground. If the pressure setting for the
pilot pressure is not correct, proceed to Section"Adjusting the Pressure Reducing
Valve (Lowering Control)".
7. Release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system.
8. Remove Tooling (A, B, C) from the main control valve. Connect hose (2) to check
valve (1) .

Adjusting the Pressure Reducing Valve (Lowering

Control)

Illustration 2 g01080144
Location of the Pressure Reducing Valve (Lowering Control)
(3) Adjustment screw. (4) Locking nut.

1. Ensure that the following preparations are completed before attempting to perform
any adjustments. the lift linkage is positioned on the ground., the key start switch is
in the OFF position. and the oil pressure is released from the implement hydraulic
system.
2. Loosen locking nut (4) . In order to increase the pressure setting for the pressure
reducing valve, turn adjustment screw (3) in the clockwise direction. In order to
decrease the pressure setting for the pressure reducing valve, turn adjustment
screw (3) in the counterclockwise direction.
3. Tighten locking nut (3) . Torque for the locking nut is 13 ± 2 N·m (10 ± 2 lb ft).
4. Start the engine and warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.
5. Raise the lift linkage to the mid-travel position and return the lift control lever to the
HOLD position. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
6. Lower the lift linkage. Observe the pilot pressure on the pressure gauge during
travel. The pilot pressure setting should be 1800 ± 300 kPa (260 ± 45 psi).
7. When the setting for the pilot pressure is correct, ensure that the lift linkage is on the
ground. Release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system.
8. Remove Tooling (A, B, C) from the main control valve. Connect hose (2) to check
valve (1) .
