E. Discussing New
Concepts and Georg Ohm found that, at a constant temperature, the electrical current flowing through a fixed linear resistance is directly
Practicing New Skill proportional to the voltage applied across it. But it is also inversely proportional to its resistance. This relationship between the
Voltage, Current and Resistance forms the basis of Ohms Law. But what is Ohm’s Law, and how does it relate to electrical
circuits.
Ohm’s Law is a formula used to calculate the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in an electrical circuit as shown
below.

Ohms Law Relationship

By knowing any two values of the Voltage, Current or Resistance quantities we can use Ohms Law to find the third missing value.
Thus, this Ohm’s Law formula can be used to calculate the values of circuit components, current levels, voltage supplies, and
voltage drops around a circuit.
Then Ohms Law is used extensively when solving electrical formulas and calculations, so it is “very important to understand and
accurately remember the basic Ohm’s law formula and relationships” and how voltage, current and resistance relate to each other.

To fid the Voltage, ( V )

[V=IxR] V (volts) = I (amps) x R (Ω)

To find the Current, ( I )

[I=V÷R] I (amps) = V (volts) ÷ R (Ω)

To find the Resistance, ( R )

[R=V÷I] R (Ω) = V (volts) ÷ I (amps)
It is sometimes easier to remember this Ohms law relationship by using pictures. Here the three quantities of V, I and R have been
superimposed into a triangle (affectionately called the Ohms Law Triangle) giving voltage at the top with current and resistance
below. This arrangement represents the actual position of each quantity within the Ohms law formulas.

Ohm’s law states that the electrical current flowing through any conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference
(voltage) between its ends, assuming the physical conditions of the conductor do not change.
In other words, the ratio of potential difference between any two points of a conductor to the current flowing between them is
constant, provided the physical conditions (e.g., temperature etc.) do not change.

1. Activity The teacher will give the student some word problem about OHMS LAW and the student will solve individually and present it to the
class.

Solve the word problem in a one whole sheet of paper.

1.A circuit has a voltage of 24 volts and a current of 2 amperes. What is the resistance of the circuit?
2.A resistor has a resistance of 10 ohms and a current of 0.5 amperes flowing through it. What is the voltage across the resistor?
3.A circuit has a voltage of 9 volts and a resistance of 3 ohms. What is the current flowing through the circuit?
2. Analysis
Determine the OHMS LAW and how to solve the current,voltage and resistance.

3. Abstraction

Why we need to know the OHMS LAWand solve word problems.

B. Evaluating
learning
Solve the following word problem using OHMS LAW.
1. A circuit has a current of 0.2 amperes and a resistance of 8 ohms. What is the voltage across the circuit?
2. A circuit has a voltage of 6 volts and a current of 0.4 amperes. What is the resistance of the circuit?
