Teaching on the Anointing Oil for an Anointing Service

Introduction:

In today's service, we will partake in an anointing service, where we apply anointing oil in faith, trusting
God for His supernatural empowerment. But first, it’s important to understand what the anointing oil
represents, why we must be anointed as Christians, what happens when we are anointed, and the
different kinds of anointing in the Bible.

1. What is the Anointing?

Definition: The anointing is a symbol of God's presence and power upon a person, to empower them
for divine purpose. In the Bible, oil was often used as a physical representation of this spiritual reality.

Biblical Reference: 1 Samuel 16:13 – "Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst
of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward."

When David was anointed, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, signifying that he was set apart and
empowered for kingship.

2. What is the Anointing Oil?

The anointing oil is a physical substance (usually olive oil) that symbolizes the Holy Spirit. When we
apply it in faith, it signifies the release of God's power and blessing over our lives.

Biblical Reference: James 5:14-15 – "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the
church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of
faith will save the sick."

The oil, combined with faith, brings healing and restoration.

3. Why Must We Be Anointed as Christians?

To Be Set Apart (Consecration): The anointing sets us apart for God’s special purposes, marking us as
His chosen vessels.

Biblical Reference: Exodus 30:30 – "And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them,
that they may minister to Me as priests."
Aaron and his sons were anointed as priests, dedicated to God’s service. Similarly, the anointing sets
us apart for divine service and blessing.

For Empowerment by the Holy Spirit: The anointing equips us with the power and gifts of the Holy
Spirit to fulfill our divine calling.

Biblical Reference: Luke 4:18 – "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to
preach the gospel to the poor."

Jesus Himself was anointed by the Holy Spirit to accomplish His mission. Likewise, the anointing
empowers us to fulfill our God-given assignments.

4. What Happens When We Are Anointed?

The Presence of the Holy Spirit is Released: When we are anointed, it signifies the presence and power
of the Holy Spirit coming upon us.

Biblical Reference: Acts 10:38 – "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with
power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with
Him."

Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power, enabling Him to do good works and bring healing.

Protection and Healing: The anointing serves as a divine covering, bringing protection from evil and
healing from sickness.

Biblical Reference: Psalm 23:5 – "You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows."

The anointing oil is a symbol of God's protection, abundance, and care, leading to overflowing
blessings.

5. Different Kinds of Anointing in the Bible

Anointing for Kingship:

In the Bible, kings were anointed to signify their divine appointment to lead. The anointing granted
them wisdom, authority, and favor to govern.
Biblical Reference: 1 Samuel 10:1 – "Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on Saul’s head and
kissed him, saying, 'Has not the Lord anointed you ruler over His inheritance?'"

Saul was anointed as king to lead Israel.

Anointing for Healing:

As mentioned in James 5:14-15, the anointing oil is used in prayer for healing. When applied with
faith, it brings about physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.

Anointing for Priestly Service:

In the Old Testament, priests were anointed to minister to God and the people.

Biblical Reference: Leviticus 8:12 – "And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and
anointed him, to consecrate him."

Priests were anointed to be holy and to minister in the temple on behalf of the people.

6. How to Prepare for Anointing

Faith: Believe that God will meet you at your point of need during the anointing service. Whether you
are believing for healing, breakthrough, or empowerment, approach the anointing with faith.

Repentance: Prepare your heart by repenting of any known sins and asking God to cleanse you. The
anointing is a holy act, and a pure heart is essential to receiving its full benefits.

Expectation: Come with expectation. As you are anointed, expect God to release His power, bring
healing, set you apart for His purpose, and grant you fresh empowerment by His Spirit.

Conclusion:

The anointing service is a powerful time of spiritual impartation. When you are anointed, the presence
of God is released upon your life, setting you apart, protecting you, healing you, and empowering you
for His work. We encourage everyone, including new converts, to partake in this service with faith and
expectation, knowing that God will move mightily in your life.

Prayer Points:
1. "Father, as I receive the anointing today, fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit and power."

2. "Lord, set me apart for Your purposes and empower me to fulfill my divine calling."

3. "As the anointing oil is applied, I receive healing, protection, and breakthrough in every area of my
life."

This teaching makes it simple and clear for new believers to understand the purpose and power behind
the anointing oil and its role in the life of a Christian.
