What four things do American consumers like?


Four things American consumers like are comfort, cleanliness, novelty and
convenience.
Firstly, it is comfort. The Americans’ love of comfort is seen in the way they furnish
their homes, design their cars, and travel. For example, Americans will go to the
store to try several mattresses before buying to see which is the most comfortable.
Secondly, it is cleanliness. There is a strong emphasis on keeping all parts of the
body clean, and Americans see lots of TV commercials for soap, shampoo,
deodorants, and mouthwash. “Cleanliness is next to godliness” reflects the belief of
most Americans.
Thirdly, it is novelty. it may come from their pride in their inventiveness. Americans
like to invent new products and improve old ones. If they cannot afford to buy new
one, they can charge it on a credit card, “buy now – pay later”
Finally, it is convenience. Labor-saving devices such as clothes dryers, dishwashers
and microwave ovens are designed to reduce the time spent on housework. The
American desire for convenience also created the concept of fast-food restaurants
and “take-out services”.
How do Americans spend their leisure time?
There are 3 activities that Americans like to do in their leisure time. Firstly, Americans
like to play sports in their leisure time. Three sports, which are football, basketball,
and baseball, are popular in the USA. Americans see sports as an inspiring example
of equality of opportunity in action. Also, many Americans believe that learning how
to win in sports helps develop the habits necessary to compete successfully in later
life. Secondly, watching TV is also their favorite activity to do in their free time. TV
has a strong effect on the activity level of many Americans. Some people spend
much of their free time lying on the couch watching TV and eating junk food. They
are called “couch potatoes”. Finally, surfing the Net is one of the most favorite leisure
activities of the American.

Americans believe that everyone should have an equal chance for success. They,
Americans, see much of life as a race for success that everyone should have an
equal chance to enter the race and win.
Equality of opportunity = as an ethical rule -> ensure the race is fair
Not because of the wealthy family or race or religion.
“fair play” = important aspect of the belief in equality of opportunity.

The House of Commons which is the most powerful, and it decides the national
policy. It has 651 MPs, members of parliament, which is elected by voters. The
House of Lords has 1203 members who are not elected. Some are life peers who
usually are the former of the House of Commons. But the majority are hereditary
peers, the heads of aristocratic families, this means that most of members of the
House of Lords are there because of what their ancestors did.
What is the national curriculum of the UK?
In 1988, the national curriculum was first introduced, it tells pupils which subjects
they must learn and when they have to take assessment tests. Between ages of 14
and 16, pupils study for their GCSE exams, General Certificate of Secondary
Education. They must take English languages, Math and Science. At the age of 16,
they can choose whether to leave school or to stay on. If they stay on, they usually
take A (advanced) levels, or AS (advanced supplement) levels or GNVQ (Greater
National Vocational Qualification).
A level includes French, Physics and History. Students need 3A to go to university
AS levels are the same as A levels but in half content
GNVQs are vocational qualifications. Students usually take Business, Leisure and
Tourism, Manufacturing, and Art and Design. One GNVQ is equal to 2 A levels

Sports that are popular in Britain are golf, cricket and rugby.
What are two types of British newspapers and what are their differences?
There are two types of British newspapers which are Tabloid and Broadsheet. The
differences between tabloid and broadsheet are breaking down.
Tabloid has lots of stories about famous people, the photos are large and the
headlines are big and not much text. Broadsheet has long articles with lots of
information, and some pages report international news. Also, the photos and
headlines are smaller than tabloid. Tabloid used to be cheaper, but now The Times
now is the cheapest.
Give an account of the tradition of immigration related to the British people.
The early history of the British Isles saw the movement of different Celtic and
Germanic tribes. The Celts were the indigenous people, and later waves of Anglo-
Saxons, Vikings, and Normans migrated to the region, influencing the genetic and
cultural makeup of the population.

What are the differences in Drinking between Commonwealth and American
Culture?
The legal age to drink in the USA is 21, while in all Commonwealth countries is 18.
In addition, closing time of bar in Britain is 11PM, while in the USA is 2AM. About
drinking habits, drinking culture in Commonwealth countries is often associated
with a pub culture, while in the United States, people may gather at bars, while in
others, socializing at home or at events.
