SECTION – A

Q. No Marks
Questions
Q.1 Immiscible transparent liquids A, B, C, D and E are placed in a rectangular 1
container of glass with the liquids making layers according to their densities.
The refractive index of the liquids are shown in the adjoining diagram. The
container is illuminated from the side and a small piece of glass having
refractive index 1.61 is gently dropped into the liquid layer. The glass piece as
it descends downwards will not be visible in

(a) Liquid A and B only

(b) Liquid C only
(c) Liquid D and E only
(d) Liquid A, B, D and E
Q.2 We have two wires A and B of same mass and same material. The diameter of 1
the wire A is half of that B. If the resistance of wire A is 24 ohm then the
resistance of wire B will be
(a) 12 Ohm (b) 3.0 Ohm (c)1.5 Ohm (d) None of the above
Q.3 Assertion : The 200 W bulbs glows with more brightness then 100 W bulbs. 1
Reason : A 100 W bulb has more resistance than a 200 W bulb.
(a) Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct
explanation
of Assertion.
(b) Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct
explanation of Assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are false.
SECTION – B
very short answer questions
Q.4 Calculate the magnitude of i in ampere unit ? 2

Q.5 One portion of a convex lens is covered as shown. Will the lens produce a 2
complete image of the object? Describe in brief the characteristics of the
image formed.

SECTION - C
short answer questions.
Q.6 (a) Light enters from air to glass having 3
refractive index 1.50. What is the
speed of light in the glass? The speed of
light in vacuum is
(b)A doctor has prescribed a corrective lens of power +1.5 D. Find the focal
length of the lens. Is the prescribed lens diverging or converging?

Q.7 Draw a schematic diagram of a circuit consisting of 24 V battery, a 10 ohm 3

resistor, a 5 ohm resistor, a 1 ohm resistors, an ammeter and a plug key, all
connected in series.
(a)Calculate the ammeter reading in this circuit.
(b)Name the scientist after whom the unit of current is called ampere.

Q.8 (a) What material is used in making the filament of an electric bulb ? 3

(b) Name the characteristics of filament which make it suitable for this.

(c)Let the resistance of an electrical component remains constant while the

potential difference across the two ends of the component decreases to half
of its former value. What change will occur in the current through it?

SECTION - D
Long answer questions.
Q.9 (a) Define real image of an object. 5
(b) Name the mirror that:-
- can give real as well as virtual image of an object.

- will always give virtual image of same size of an object.

- will always give virtual and diminished image of an object.

- is used by a doctor in examining teeth,

(c) With the help of a ray diagram explain the use of concave mirror as solar
concentrators.

OR
(a) Define principal focus of a spherical mirror.

(b)
(b) For what position of the object does a concave mirror form a real, inverted
and diminished image of the object? Draw the ray diagram.

(c) An object 4 cm high is placed at a distance of 6 cm in front of a concave

mirror of focal length 12 cm. Find the position of the image formed.
SECTION - E
case - based/data -based questions
( COMPETENCEY BASED QUESTIONS)
Q.10 Study the data given below showing the focal length of three concave mirrors 4
A, B and C and the respective distances of objects placed in front of the mirrors:

(i)In which one of the above cases the mirror will form a dimi nished image
of the object? Justify your answer.
(ii) List two properties of the image formed in case 2.
(iii) What is the nature and size of the image formed by mirror C? Draw ray
diagram to justify your answer.
(iv) An object is placed at a distance of 18 cm from the pole of a concave
mirror of focal length 12 cm. Find the position of the image formed in
this case.
