14. In an experiment to trace the path of a ray of light through a glass prism for different
values of angle of incidence a student would find that the emergent ray:
(a) is parallel to the incident ray

(c) is parallel to the refracted ray
(d) bends at an angle to the direction of the incident ray
15. Which of the following limits the number of trophic levels maintained by an ecosystem?
(a) The number of species (b) The population size
(c) The loss of potential energy (d)The hours of sunshine
16. What will happen if deer is missing from the food chain: grass → deer → Tiger?
A. The population of tiger will increase
B. Tiger will start eating grass
C. The population of grass decrease
D. Population of tiger decrease and grass increases
Question No. 17 to 20 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer
these questions by selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true
17. Assertion (A): Chemical reaction changes the physical and chemical state of a substance.
Reason (R): When electric current is passed through water (liquid), it decomposes to produce
hydrogen and oxygen gases.
18. Assertion (A): In human beings, the sex of the individual is largely genetically determined.
Reason (R): In snails, the sex is not genetically determined.
19. Assertion (A): a convex lens can form a magnified erect as well as magnified inverted image of
an object placed in front of it.
Reason (R): a magnified and inverted image can be obtained by a convex lens when an object
is kept between F and C.
20. Assertion (A): the energy flow through different steps in the food chain is unidirectional.
Reason (R): the energy which is captured by the autotrophs does not revert back to the solar
input and passes to the herbivores.
Section-B
Question No. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions
21. Two reactions are given below:
(a) 2KI + Cl2→ 2KCl + I2

24. A spherical mirror produces an image of magnification -1 on a screen placed at a distance of 50
cm from the mirror.
(a) Write the type of mirror.
(b) Find the distance of the image from the object.
25. A. The figure below shows three cylindrical copper conductors along with their face areas
and lengths. Discuss in which geometrical shape the resistance will be highest.

Analyze the result and describe the mechanism of inheritance which explains these results.
31. State the cause of dispersion of white light by a glass prism. Draw a labelled diagram to
illustrate the recombination of the spectrum of white light. Why is it essential that the two-prism
used for the purpose should be identical and placed in an inverted position with respect to each
other.
32. A fuse wire melts at 5 A. If it is desired that the fuse wire of the same material melt at 10 A,
then should the new fuse wire be of smaller or larger radius than the earlier one? Give reasons for
your answer.
