HALF-WAVE RECTIFIER

Aim:

To construct a Half wave rectifier circuit using diodes and test its input and output signal
waveforms with and without Capacitor filter, and find its maximum voltage.

Apparatus Required:

S.No Name Range/Value Quantity

1. Transformer 230V/6-0-6V 1
2. Diode 1N4001 1
3. Capacitors 100µF/25V 1
4. Decade Resistance Box - 1
5. Bread Board and connecting wires - 1Set
6. Dual Trace CRO 20MHz 1

Theory:

Half wave rectifier contains only one diode. During the positive half cycles of the input signal the
diode conducts in forward biasing. Similarly during the negative half cycles of the input signal the
diode conducts in reverse biasing. So the output waveform contains only positive half cycles of the
input signal.

Procedure:

1. Connecting the circuit on bread board as per the circuit diagram(without filter).
2. Connect the primary of the transformer to main supply i.e.230V,50Hz.
3. Connect the decade resistance box and set the RL value to 1KΩ.
4. Switch on the AC input signal and CRO.
5. Trace the input and output waveforms.
6. Connect the capacitor (filter) across its output load terminals.
7. Again draw the output waveforms.
8. Find its input and output signal frequencies.
9. Switch OFF the AC input signal and CRO.
10. Disconnect the components.

Aim:

To construct a positive clipper and negative clipper circuit using diode and draw its output
waveforms.

Apparatus Required:

S.No Name Range/Value Quantity

1. Diode 1N4001 1
2. Resistor 1KΩ 1
3. Function Generator 3MHz 1
4. Dual Trace CRO 20MHz 1
5. Bread Board and connecting wires - 1Set

Theory:

The diode clipper, also known as a diode limiter, is a wave shaping circuit that limits positive
or negative amplitude, or both. In electronics, diode clipper circuits are commonly used to process
various signals. It is a circuit designed to prevent a signal from exceeding a predetermined reference
voltage level. Clipping changes the shape of the waveform and alters its spectral components.

Procedure:

1. Make the connections as per the circuit diagram.

2. Connect the CRO at its output side.
3. Switch on the AC input signal and CRO.
4. Trace the input and output waveforms.
5. Switch OFF the AC input signal and CRO.
6. Disconnect the components.

CLAMPER

Aim:

To construct a positive clamper and negative clamper circuit using diode and draw its
waveforms.

Apparatus Required:

S.No Name Range/Value Quantity

1. Diode 1N4001 1
2. Resistor 10KΩ 1
3. Capacitor 100µF 1
4. Function Generator 3MHz 1
5. Dual Trace CRO 20MHz 1
6. Bread Board and connecting wires - 1Set

Theory:

The clamper circuits are also called DC restorers. These circuits are especially used to shift the
applied waveforms to above or below levels of the DC reference voltage without showing the
impact on the shape of the waveform. This shifting tends to modify the V dc level of the applied
wave.

Procedure:

1. Make the connections as per the circuit diagram.

2. Connect the CRO at its output side.
3. Switch on the AC input signal and CRO.
4. Trace the input and output waveforms.
5. Switch OFF the AC input signal and CRO.
6. Disconnect the components.

COMMON BASE CONFIGURATION

Circuit diagram:
EX.NO: 8
DATE: COMMON BASE CONFIGURATION

Aim:

To obtain the input and output characteristic of the given NPN transistor in Common Base
configuration and find its input and output resistance.

Apparatus Required:

S.No Name Range/Value Quantity

1. NPN transistor BC 107 1
2. Regulated power supply 0-30V 2
3. Voltmeter 0-20V 1
4. Ammeter 0-200mA 1
5. Resistor 1KΩ 1
6. Dual Trace CRO 20MHz 1

Theory:

In Common base configuration, emitter is an input terminal and collector is an output terminal.
To determine the input characteristics, the reading will be taken in between base to emitter voltage
(VBE) and emitter current (IE) at different constant levels of collector to base voltages (V BC). To
determine the output characteristics, the reading will be taken in between base to collector voltage
(VBC) and collector current (IC) at different constant levels of emitter currents (I E).
RESULT:

A half wave rectifier circuit using diodes are constructed and its input and output waveforms with
and without filters were traced and tested.
