Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Grade 8
Content Standard:

• The learner is able to understand key concepts of geometry and triangle congruent
Performance Standards:

• The learner is able to communicate mathematical thinking with coherence and

clarity in formulating, investigating, analyzing, and solving real-life problems
involving congruent triangles using appropriate and accurate representations.
Learning Competences and its Codes:

• The learner proves two triangles are congruent (M8GE-IIIg-1)

I. Lesson Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
• identify conditions for triangle congruence;
• use triangle congruence postulates and theorems to prove that two triangles are
congruent; and
• recognize real-life applications of congruent triangles.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Proving Two Triangles Are Congruent (RIGHT TRIANGLE THEOREM)
Reference: Mathematics Quarter 3 : Self-Learning Modules
Instructional Materials: Powerpoint presentation, chalkboard, chalk, eraser

III. Procedure
Preliminaries
1. Setting of Students
2. Opening Prayer
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
The teacher will ask the students about what they have learned in previous
lesson about solving corresponding parts of congruent triangle. To attest
students’ understanding about the last lesson.
5. Motivation:
Mechanics: The teacher will present a game titled: “Find my twin
triangle”, the Students will identify pairs of congruent triangles by
applying the Right Triangle Congruence Theorems (HL, LL, or LA).
1. Each slide will show two triangle, decide if they are congruent or
twins using Hyl, HyA, LL, and LA.
2. The student who guessed correctly will earn a point/reward.
IV. Lesson Proper:
Example 1:
The two legs of ∆𝐵𝐴𝐺 are congruent respectively to the two

≅ ∆𝐶𝑂𝑃
legs of ∆𝐶𝑂𝑃. The two triangles are right. Prove that ∆𝐵𝐴𝐺

Step 1. Identify what the given are and what is to be

proved

Given: 𝐵𝐴≅ 𝐶𝑂 , 𝐵𝐺 ≅ 𝐶𝑃, ∆𝐴𝐵𝐺 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∆𝑂𝐶𝑃

Prove: ∆𝐵𝐴𝐺 ≅ ∆𝐶𝑂𝑃

are right triangles

Step 2. Identify the congruence theorem to be used and the additional

information needed and why.

Since the two triangles, ∆𝐴𝐵𝐺 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∆𝑂𝐶𝑃 are right, hence 𝐵 ≅ 𝐶. Based on
the given congruent parts, ∆𝐵𝐴𝐺 ≅ ∆𝐶𝑂𝑃 by SAS congruence postulate.

show that 𝐴𝐺≅ 𝑂𝑃 through the use of Pythagorean Theorem. So, ∆𝐵𝐴𝐺 ≅
The congruence of the corresponding legs of the two triangles will lead us to

∆𝐶𝑂𝑃 can also be proven using SSS Congruence Postulate.

And since the corresponding legs of the right triangles are congruent, it can also
be proven by LL congruence theorem, as shown in step 3 below

Step 3. Write down the statements and the reasons in a two-column proof.
Make sure the last statement contains what should be proved.

Example 2:
Application:

Evaluation:
Assignment:
Directions: The class will be divided into 5 groups. Follow the steps below to complete the
activity. Work with your group and ensure that all tasks are accomplished.

Steps to Complete the Activity:

 Your group will be assigned one of the right triangle congruence theorems
(e.g., HL, SAS).
 Using the provided materials (graph paper, rulers, and protractors), create two
triangles that satisfy your assigned theorem.
 Measure and record the sides and angles of your triangles accurately.
 Write down the process and reasoning to show how your group proved the
congruence of the two triangles.
Group Presentation
 Prepare a short presentation to explain how your group proved the triangles are
congruent.
 Include the drawings, measurements, and your reasoning in the explanation.
 Present your findings to the class clearly and concisely.
