To give an overview of Human Resource Management and the crucial role played by HRM in
Industry

CO 1: Visualize the dynamic environment in which Human Resource Management exists.

CO 2: Conduct a basic Job Analysis and differentiate between Job description and specification.

CO 3: Get a complete picture of the Sources of Recruitment and the process of Selection.

CO 4: Understand the different methods of training and analyse their stage in Career Planning.

CO 5: Create a lucid picture of the methods of performance appraisal and distinguish it from Job
Evaluation.

Human Resource Management: Meaning – definition – objectives – functions

HRM in a dynamic environment: Internal environment: Unions – organizational culture and


conflict – professional bodies. External environment: technological change – work force
diversity - globalization – organizational restructuring – changing nature of work- the knowledge
worker. – Role of HRM in strategic management.

Ethical Issues in HRM.

MODULE II : HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING (15 Hrs)

Definition – Objectives – process - job analysis – job description – job specification – job
evaluation – process and methods of job evaluation – job design. Case application

MODULE III: HUMAN RESOURCE RECRUITMENT, SELECTION AND


INDUCTION (20 Hrs)

Definition – sources of recruitment: Internal and external sources – selection process – different
types of tests – validity and reliability of tests – interviewing – types of interviews – Induction-
Orientation Programme- types. Case application

MODULE IV : HUMAN RESOURCE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, CAREER


PLANNING (20 Hrs)
Training needs – traditional training methods – the new leadership development methods –
Career Planning-Stages of a career- Employer and Employee’s Role- HR’s role in quality
management.

MODULE V: PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL (20 Hrs)

Meaning – definition – importance. Methods of Performance Appraisal. a) Traditional methods:


Ranking method-Paired comparison method-Essay method-Confidential report b) Modern
Methods: Management by Objectives(MBO)-concept of Behaviorally Anchored Rating
Scale(BARS) – Self Appraisal – 360 degree feedback – Potential appraisal.
