RATIONALE

Recreational activities are essential for individuals since they provide

enjoyment and impart significant advantages to the human body. According to Lisa

Croff in his article titled, “Leisure and Recreation for Health”, (2017), recreational

activities can significantly enhance physical health. It also aids in stress

management and promotes a sense of balance and self-esteem, which can

immediately alleviate anxiety and depression. According to the study of “An

American Recreation Coalition Study”, (2000), it's evident that merely being outside

and engaging in physical activity is a straightforward path to achieving a happier and

healthier version of yourself.

The Philippines has numerous recreational activities. The traditional outdoor

games we enjoyed, affectionately referred to as “Laro ng Lahi,” serve as an excellent

means to promote outdoor activities beyond the confines of screens while preserving

a part of Filipino heritage and rich culture in the archipelago. It is composed of

physical activities that trigger most parts of the body, namely the namely the

tumbang preso, chinese garter, sipa, luksong kalabaw and etc,

But, recreational activities are not the only thing we need in our bodies. According to

the article entitled “The Water in You: Water and the Human Body”, water is indeed

essential for all life on, in, and above the earth. This is important especially because

we are made up mostly of water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological

Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% of water and the lungs are

about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles, and kidneys are 79% and

even the bones are watery 31%. Generally, an adult male needs about 3 liters (3.2

quarts) per day while an adult female needs about 2.2 liters (2.3 quarts) per day. It is
very important because it serves a number of essential functions to keep us all

going.

But, the problem nowadays, the water was being consume by some individual

in nonsense things. Sometimes, there are children who just play the water without

thinking that it is important to their body. According to the World counts (2014), billion

people in developing countries do not access to safe drinking water. Globally, we

consume around 4 trillion cubic meters of fresh water a year. This is the reason why

water shortage is a bigger problem today than ever before. Unless, we all take it

seriously, soon, we will have a crisis in our hands. We will live in a blue planet

without a drop of water that’s safe to drink.

In regarding with this, Lamesa Singko proposed a recreational game which

entitled WATCON: A Water Conservation Game. This game aims to (a) practice

water conservation while playing and enjoying, (b) improve camaraderie in every

team and (c) to test and improve the alertness of every player. This game is played

in an open area because the court that is needed to have 5 meters’ width and 9-12

meters’ length. The court must have 3 columns and 2 rows (like the patintero court).

In playing this game, it is needed to have 10 players which will be divided into two.

The materials needed were one (1) pail that is full of water, five (5) plastic cups, two

(2) empty 1.5 bottle and coin for toss coin. In this game, the players need to make

sure that the water will never throw away. By this way, Lamesa Singko make sure

that the players will realize that getting water is not easy so that they should

conserve it.
OBJECTIVES

 To practice water conservation while playing and enjoying.

 To improve camaraderie in every team.

 To test and improve alertness of every player.

TIME

There will be no allotted time for this game. The game will just end once there

is already a team who make the 1.5 bottle full of water.

VENUE

This game must be done in an open and wide area with a court that is needed

to have 5 meters’ width and 9 meters’ length. The court must have 3 columns and 2

rows like the patintero court.

MATERIALS

The following are the materials that are needed in playing this game:

1.) Five (5) Plastic cup – a visible cup which will be used in fetching a water.

is being fetch by the players were being put.

container where the players are going to get water which will be put in the 1.5

bottle.

PLAYERS OF THE WATCON

1. PLAYERS TEAM – Consist of 5 players that are going to play the game. But,

they can become the block team once one member from the block team touch

them while the game is ongoing.

2. BLOCK TEAM – The team who are going to block the line so that the players

team never pass. But, once any of them already touch any player from the

player’s team, they can become the players team and play the game. Their

goal is to touch or reach the players of the other team, so that the water that

the other player brings throw away and the game stop. The five blockers must

be:

 First Guard – a block team member who will block and guard the first

line. He/she must make sure that he/she is always on the first line so

that his touch became always valid.

 Second Guard – a block team member who will block and guard the

second line. He/she must make sure that he/she is always on the

second line so that his touch became always valid.

 Middle Guard – a block team member who will block and guard the

middle line. He/she must make sure that he/she is always on the

became always valid.

 Fourth Guard - who will block and guard the fourth line. He/she must

make sure that he/she is always on the fourth line so that his touch

became always valid.

MECHANICS

 In this game, 10 players are needed which will be divided into two

teams.

 Each team will choose who will be the first guard, second guard,

middle guard, third guard, and fourth guard.

 The two teams will have a toss coin to determine who will be the team

to play first the game and the team who will block the line for the

players not to pass. The team who will win the toss coin will be the first

player.

 Once each member of the first players was already identified, the first

player will get plastic cup and fill it with water from the pail. On the
other hand, the other team will position to the line which is assigned to

them: (first guard to the first line, second guard to the second line, third

guard to the third line, fourth guard to the fourth line and middle guard

to the middle line).

 Once everyone is already ready, the first guard will shout the word

WATCON, which is the signal that the players can enter the line and

the game will start. The first players must make sure that the opposing

team will never touch or reach them because if this happen, their game

will stop and that will be the time that the opposing team will became

the one to play while their team will become the team to block the line.

They must also protect the water that they are bringing. They must

avoid the water from throwing away so that they immediately finish the

game.

 The first guard, second guard, third guard, fourth guard and middle

guard must make sure that they are in their proper line or position

because once they touch the players but they are not in proper

position, there touch is not valid, therefore, the game of the other

players will continue.

 The players must pass to the first guard, second guard, third guard,

fourth guard and middle guard and be careful not to reach by the

middle guard for them to go in the 1.5 bottle which they are going to full

with water. The players will go back to the pail in the front to get again

a water using the plastic cup and they still need to avoid touching by

the opposing team. All the members of the team must go back first in
the front before they get again the water from the pail and wait again

for the signal of the first guard.

 Once the one of the opposing team which either be the first guard,

second guard, third guard, fourth guard and middle guard touch the

other players, they will be given a chance to play, the same rule with

the first players.

 The first team who make the 1.5 bottle full of water, will declared to be

the winner.
