COMPONENT B
SCHOOL : EXCELL COLLEGE
LEVEL : GRADE 7
SUBJECT : MATHEMATICS
SYLLABUS TOPIC : MEASUREMENT
SUB TOPIC : SHAPES
TITLE : PLANE AND SOLID SHAPES
CALA TYPE : PEN AND PAPER
COMPETENCE SKILLS : RESEARCHING, RECORDING, CONSTRUCTION, DRAWING
BACKGROUND
Most learners do not know the difference between plane and solid shapes. Learners cannot
correctly name given shapes.
CALA DESCRIPTIONS: This CALA consists of three parts. Part A, B, and C. Learners must answer
all parts
PART A
1. a. What are plane shapes? [1]
b. Shapes are named according to the number of sides they have. Give one name that defines
each of the following shapes
i. a shape with 3 sides
ii. a shape with 4 sides
iii. a shape with 5 sides
iv. a shape with 6 sides
v. a shape with 7 sides
vi. a shape with 8 sides
vii. a shape with 9 sides
viii. a shape with 10 sides [4]
PART B
2. a. What are solid shapes? [1]
b. Using a ruler and pencil draw the following solid shapes. Measurements should be in cm.
Accurate measurements are required.
i. a rectangular prism
ii. a cube
iii. a square pyramid
iv. a cone
v. a cylinder
vi. a sphere ( not a circle ) [4]
c. Write down the number of edges of a rectangular prism.
d. Write down the number of corners of a cube.
e. Give two similarities between a cube and a square pyramid. (Look on their bases, the name
of the base) The other similarity, are both solid shapes)
f. Give two differences between a cone and a square pyramid. [6]
PART C
Using manila, paper, glue or any other material, make the following 3 dimensional (solid)
shapes.
3. i. square pyramid
ii. rectangular prism
iii. cube
iv. cylinder
v. cone [10]

LEVEL : GRADE 7
SUBJECT : MATHEMATICS
SYLLABUS TOPIC : RELATIONSHIPS
SUB TOPIC : DATA HANDLING
TITLE : GRAPHS
CALA TYPE : PEN AND PAPER
COMPETENCE SKILLS : RESEARCHING, RECORDING, CONSTRUCTION, DRAWING
BACKGROUND
In this world of technological expansion most information is represented graphically. It has
been noted that some learners are not able to read and interpret information represented on
graphs.
CALA DESCRIPTIONS: This CALA consists of three parts. Part A, B, and C. Learners must answer
all parts
PART A
1. a. Identify five types of graphs. [5]
b. Give two reasons why information is represented on the graph. [2]
c. What is the name of the graph above? [1]
d. In which month was the most maize delivered? [1]
e. What was the difference between maize delivered in May and maize delivered in July? [2]
PART B
1. Draw a bar graph which shows the population of goats in some countries in SADC region.
PART C
The graph below shows a journey made by Mrs Zivanai from Harare to Gweru by lorry. Use the
graph to answer questions 8-14
8. Use the graph paper to plot the corresponding km points and then draw the graph. [3]
9. The lorry had a puncture along the way. How long did it take to mend the puncture? [2]
10. How long did it take Mrs Zivanai to travel from Harare to Gweru? [1]
11. How far had Mrs Zivanai travelled by 11:00 am?
12. What was the actual travelling time? [1]
13. How many kilometers had Mrs Zivanai travelled when the lorry had a puncture? [1]
14. If the lorry had not had a puncture what would be its average speed if the distance between
Harare and Gweru is 240km long? [2]

SUBJECT : MATHEMATICS
SYLLABUS TOPIC : MEASURES
SUB TOPIC : MONEY
TITLE : INVOICES
CALA TYPE : PEN AND PAPER
COMPETENCE SKILLS : RESEARCHING, RECORDING, PROBLEM SOLVING
BACKGROUND
Application of financial concept is key in life. Each and every family purchases goods from
different shops hence there is need to get an invoice of goods that one would want to pay for,
so as to prepare a budget. It is against this background that learners should practice making
invoices.
PART A
Find the prices of the following goods from a shop of your own choice. The prices should be in
ZIG. 2 litres cooking oil, 2kg sugar, 2kg washing powder, 2kg flour, 100ml toothpaste, 10kg
mealie-meal, 1 litre fresh milk, 2 litres mazoe, 2kg salt, 1 loaf of bread. [10]
PART B
Prepare an invoice of the following goods:
BACKGROUND
Learners are taught about 2 dimensional shapes such as rectangles, squares, circles and
triangles. From ECD learners learn these shapes. The relevance of the concept is to equip the
learners with relevant Mathematical skills which will help them to solve problems in life.
PART A
Mr Chisi has a rectangular field measuring 500m by 350m. To protect his crops from veld fires
he created a fire break measuring 5m right round the field. The diagram of the field and
firebreak is shown below.
